a little sleep spell jar i made to help ease my sleep-related anxiety and to protect me during my sleep from any unwanted / negative / harmful energies. here’s how i made mine, but be sure to adapt it to your practice:

you’ll need:

😴 a jar

😴 white ribbon

😴 dead sea salt

😴 lavender

😴 rosemary

😴 poppy seed

😴 peppermine

😴 rose

😴 amethyst, rose quarts, jet, black obsidian

to do:

💤 cleanse your space / open a circle / whatever your protection ritual is

💤 put the open jar in the center of your work space and place your chosen crystal(s) around it

💤 fill the jar with the herbs in whatever order you like (i did salt, lavender, rosemary, poppy seed, salt, peppermint, rose)

💤 if you have a small crystal you wanna put into the jar, put it on top (i didn’t but you can if you like!)

💤 hold your hands over the jar and speak your intention. i’m not a fancy gal, so mine didn’t rhyme, but it was declaring the purpose of the jar to be for protection while sleeping and for encouraging peaceful slumber.

💤 cork / close the jar and seal with a kiss (or wax if that’s your thing)

💤 tie a piece of white ribbon around the lip of the jar

💤 put next to your bed!

Simple Sleeping Spell || Sleep Sachet

here is a little ritual you can do to bring warmth, joy and harmony to a home to make it feel cozier and more welcoming. best done during a full moon, but you can do it any time. you will need:

☾ a small bowl of ceramic, wood or glass

☾ a clove of garlic (bringing warmth + togetherness to a home)

☾ a sprinkle of lavender flowers (tranquility and calm)

☾ a sprig of pine (home blessing, cleansing, grounding)

☾ a brown candle (home and hearth magick)

sit in the main area of your home. light your brown candle; sit comfortably on the floor or couch and meditate on the candle for a while. warm your hands with its flame.

set the offering bowl in front of the candle. take the garlic clove in your hands and visualize the way you want your home to feel: warm, lived-in and welcoming. warm the clove over the candle-flame briefly and set it in the bowl.

take your lavender flowers in your hands. close your eyes, take a deep breath and inhale the scent of them. let it calm you, as it will calm the energy of your home. place the flowers atop the garlic.

lastly, take the sprig of pine. use it like a wand; point it toward all four corners of the room you’re in. place it against your heart, and set it in the bowl.

Honey Oat Bread

Ingredients:

- 1 cup milk (almond or soy for vegan or dairy free)

- 2 tbsps unstated butter or margarine

- ¼ cup honey (agave for vegan)

- ¼ cup water, lukewarm

- 2 ¼ tsps instant yeast

- 3 cups all-purpose flour

- ¾ cup oats (instant or old fashioned)

- 1 ½ tsp salt

For topping:

- 1 ½ - 2 tbsps honey, warmed (agave for vegan)

- 1 ½ -2 tbsps oats

Directions:

- In a small bowl heat the milk so that it is warm enough to melt the butter, but not boiling. Add the butter, stirring until melted, then stir in the water and honey.

- Stir the yeast into the mixture and let sit for 15 minutes until bubbly.

- In a large bowl, or the bowl of a standing mixer, combine the flour, oats, and salt.

- Pour the milk mixture into the flour mixture, mixing with a dough hook or spoon until it just comes together to form a dough. Knead in the mixer or by hand for 10 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.

- Cover the bowl with a clean dry towel and allow to rise until doubled, about ½ to 1 hour.

- Once doubled, with your fingers, flatten the dough into a 9 by 12-inch rectangle. Tightly roll the dough, tucking the ends as needed, into a loaf. Place the shaped dough into a lightly greased 9×5-inch loaf pan, cover with a clean dry towl, and allow to rise until doubled, about ½ to 1 hour.

- Preheat oven to 350 degrees (180 C). Place an empty loaf pan on the bottom rack of the oven and bring 2 cups of water to a boil.

- When the loaf is doubled again, brush the top with the warmed honey and sprinkle with the oats.

- Place the bread in the oven and pour the boiling water into the empty loaf pan on the bottom rack of the oven. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, until the bread is deep golden brown and the internal temperature is about 190 degrees.

- Transfer to a wire cooling rack and allow to cool completely before serving.

- Salt ~ cleansing & purification, grounding, protection

- Yeast~  grounding, purification

Lemon Chamomile Whipped Shortbread Cookies

Ingredients:

- 2 cups salted butter or margarine, very soft

- 1 cup powdered sugar

- 1 tsp vanilla extract

- ½ cup cornstarch

- 3 cups all-purpose flour

- 3 tsps lemon zest

- 3 tsps loose chamomile tea

Directions:

- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Lighty grease three baking sheets.

- Using a hand-held electric beater, cream the butter, sugar, and vanilla until very creamy.

- Gradually beat in the cornstarch and flour.

- Beat in the lemon zest and chamomile. Continue to beat the batter for a full 10 minutes until it looks like slightly overbeaten whipped cream (see notes).

- Drop the batter by heaping tablespoons onto the prepared cookie sheets.

- Bake the cookies for approximately 15-20 minutes. Remove the cookies from the oven just as they start to brown on the bottoms.

- Let the shortbread cookies cool on the cookie sheet for at least 10 minutes, then transfer them to a cooling rack to finish cooling. Do be careful when moving them as they will fall apart if you transfer them too soon.

Notes:

- If you use a stand-mixer instead of a hand held electric beater, the cookies will fall flat. If you want to use your stand mixer, please make sure to reduce the time you mix the batter.

Honey Lavender Lemonade

Ingredients:

- 1 ½ cups honey lavender simple syrup (recipe below)

- 1 ½ cups lemon juice

- 2 ½ cups water, sparkling water, or sparkling wine

Honey Lavender Simple Syrup:

Ingredients:

- I cup honey (granulated sugar for vegan)

- ½ cups water

- 1 tbsp lavender buds

Directions:

- Stir all ingredients together in a medium saucepan, and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.

- Remove from heat and refrigerate. Strain out buds before using.

Directions:

- Stir all ingredients together until combined. Serve over ice.

So, in a lot of languages, there are multiple verbs that mean, “to love,” which are each situational, while, in English, we derive the meaning through context

Like, “Te quiero,” refers to love for friends and family, aka platonic love, while , “Te amo,” or, “Ai shiteru,” in Japanese, is so achingly tender and romantic that you might as well write the other person a receipt for your heart, because it’s theirs now

At some point, English did have multiple verbs for, “to love,” but eventually English speakers decided, “to hell with it, I only want 1 broad term for these big mushy feelings,” because we hate having multiple words for things almost as much as we hate punctuation

TL;DR: cultures that are non-English speaking do tell their kids they love them, they just have multiple words that mean, “To love,” and English is the odd man out because it got tired of that and went

There is however a difference between platonic and non-platonic “I love you"s. A mother never tells their children "I love you,” it’s “Ich hab dich lieb,” which can’t really be translated tbh. It’s a much, much stronger version of “I like you”. You’d say it to your family and close friends.

Here is the Jar spell I made for my parents! It’s a House Protection Jar.

It has 16 Ingredients (in the order I put it in the jar):

A sigil “This Home is Protected”

Black Salt (Protection)

Ground Black Pepper (Dispels Evil)

Coffee Grounds (Peace and Energy)

Ginger (Positivity and Prosperity)

Cinnamon (Protection)

Oats (Health)

Chamomile (Purification and Health)

Cloves (Protection)

Rosemary (Protection)

Lavender (Peace, Calmness, and Love)

Rose Petals (Domestic Peace, Happiness, and Love)

Vanilla Extract (Energy and Positivity) (I’m pretty sure I shouldn’t have put this in, since it’s a liquid, but hopefully it’ll be fine!)

Sunflower Petals (Protection, Happiness, and Energy)

Dried Orange Peal (Happiness) 

Himalayan Salt (Sea Salt is for Protection and Purification) 

I put the Sigil down and sealed it with wax to “activate” it. Added each ingredient, layer by layer. Each layer putting my intent on the herb while I grabbed it and poured it in. Then I sealed it with some candles: First blue, then black, then white (I didn’t just set it on and waited for it to burn down, I just ended up dripping it around.) The colors of the candles weren’t as strong, slightly faded, but it still fit (and matched my parents house.)

Pretty proud of this! Being my first witchy thing this year (and ever, really) and it went well~
