{Human AU Two-Shot} Caroline returns to her small hometown of Mystic Falls, intent on selling her late mother's home and finally leaving behind a past she no longer wants to remember. Both figuratively and literally.

Stuck in a dead-end job that, as of two days ago, promises no progression, and stuck in the middle of an empty road with a blown-out tyre.

This is when her mother would say, “Your father knew how to change a tyre. If he hadn’t left us, maybe you wouldn’t be stuck.”

But Elizabeth Forbes, Mystic Falls’ resident Sheriff, is long gone from this world, and Caroline can’t argue back that her mother also knew how to change a tyre, that if Elizabeth Forbes wasn't such a workaholic, Caroline would know how, too.

No, all Caroline can do is stand helplessly with a wrench in one hand and a phone playing some well-meaning man named Kevin’s tutorial in the other.

The sun hasn’t set just yet, so Caroline’s betting on fight or flight—or in this case, fight or fix a tyre—to kick in. She figures she has enough daylight left to do a passable job that will at least get her to her childhood home unscathed.
