Daniel is the only of the four TVL leads who has any remaining human connections: his ex-wives and his daughters.

Daniel knows Lestat and Louis will survive, Fareed told him so. Armand knows Lestat and Louis will survive, he is ancient and knows that it would take prolonged fire or sunlight to destroy both their heads and bodies.
This wasn't an execution it was a warning shot. It's a delaying tactic to push back the concert. It's an intimidation tactic to tell the 50K mostly fledgling vampires (there were only 1.6K according to Raglan in season 1) that they are all vulnerable--if someone could maim/kill a vampire as powetful as Lestat, then they all have something to fear.
Lestat is deliberately helping to cause the vampire apocalypse which will wipe out half a city the same night as his concert killing the neighbors he chose to live among and who trusted him with their kids for trick-or-treating two years ago. Lestat takes no responsibility for the carnage that will follow with Gabriella using him as a figure-head to control The Great Conversion through charisma by proxy. Lestat tells Louis so on their way to the restaurant and confirms it again for Daniel over drinks.
Armand and Daniel aren't gleeful as they turn and walk away. Daniel is expressionless as if he's disociated and Armand is resigned and even momentarily breaks fourth wall to maintain direct eye contact with the camera--narrator!Lestat's way of addressing that Armand told him to stop yet Lestat didn't. The devils minion scene from episode 5 has a gorgeous, romantic piano theme. Narrator!Lestat cut away from Big Boss in his moment of triumph in episode 4 to show Daniel following Armand when he felt the hurt Armand felt through their bond. Lestat shows Armand apologizing while his shirts are unbuttoned exposing his emotional heart in the only scene this season Armand hasn't been wearing the overcoat like emotional armor, teling us that Armand's attempted apology had been sincere. Narrator! Lestat does not consider Armand to be an enemy even while present day! Lestat is openly antagonistic to him. And most importantly, Louis and Armand exchange fond-if-exasperated smiles with each other at the auction in episode 1. Louis who was beheaded personally by Armand doesn't bear him ill will.
This is Gothic Horror. There are no heroes and no villains, just fucked up people trying their best (or not!) while doing fucked up things and hurting each other along the way.
