Yeah...

I read the books so I expected weird problematic shit (if anything, I appreciate that the show tones it down a bit and addresses it directly!) as well as the intense tonal shift. I’ve watched the first two seasons, so I also expected it to be vastly different from the book while keeping the essence of the story the same (just like they did with IWTV!).

I love Lestat’s ridiculous prose, I love the music!!!, I love that we get to see more storylines expand like Devil’s Minion, and I love that they found ways to keep Louis and Claudia in the show. I have small gripes here and there, mainly with the pacing but I can absolutely understand that it’s due to the limited amount of episodes.

We also see this type of claustrophobia with his purple sleeping bag. A coffin is too risky, as he's in a prone position, defenseless to any predator. Instead, he chooses a sleeping bag in an upright position. His eyes and ears are exposed and alert, whilst the fabric makes for an easy get away.

it’s late, it’s early, and daniel’s eyes start to burn. like good drugs. like too much sunlight. like cutting onions. he’s sure his irises must be glowing red, maybe orange—day old citrus peel, lit cigarette, marigold, traffic cone, garibaldi fish. they must be on fire. like the eyes of the stray cat he feeds when it comes slinking in through his window at home. staring at him while it licks at the chipped saucer of milk daniel leaves by his door. he doesn’t name the cat. he doesn’t tell the cat his name.

he didn’t ask the student tonight for his name either. took his glasses off so things could be out of focus. the reading had been shit. he’d been doing lines in the bathroom before and then stumbled over the word “solipsistic.” but the twenty-something stunner in the front row watched him moon-eyed anyway. no accounting for taste.

Maybe Daniel met Alice during the runaway years at the end of the dm decade where he kept asking Armand for the gift and he wouldn’t give it to him. In the books that‘s where their relationship starts to crumble until Daniel almost dies and Armand turns him. So to me it‘d make a lot of sense if that‘s the moment Armand decides to end their affair and allow Daniel to live a happy, mortal life with Alice (which ofc backfires)
