I have a lot of thoughts about the new chapter, especially now that I've sat on it for a few hours after beating it. Unfortunately not all of them are sorted (mostly the 'why do I feel this way' kind of questions.. I'll probably make a post about them when I find the answers), but I definitely know how I feel on the shipping front.
Of course, on its face, its hard to not feel the "it's so over" dread. Obviously I have my preference (Krusie), but I don't want anything to become canon. By the time I got to the beach, I could already hear the one side claiming they won and dunking on everyone else. Because apparently, to many in this fandom, the shipping is all that matters. I don't understand this, nor do I want to. It's really obnoxious and pretentious. There's so much more to Delatrune than that. It's also downright mean to go after those with different feelings.
But that's not what I'm here to talk about.
What I want to talk about is the whole situation between Susie and Noelle in the game itself.
I really do believe it's not meant to happen at the end, and that it's not just wishful thinking on my part. Why? Because I feel like they both have these very romanticized ideas about one another. Ones where they don't realize who each other really are.
Noelle has always liked danger and fear. And she once found Susie very strong and scary. Makes sense why she'd have a crush on her from afar and develop this idea that Susie is nothing but a genuinely scary person. I know she's learning more and more that she's not like that at all, but after watching the Weird Route, I think Noelle craves that fear more than she lets on. I think she wants Susie to be the one to help her "do something crazy" and change her in a way that also makes her a very strong and scary monster too.
As for Susie, I think she feels the rush of someone genuinely pining for her. And it's the super nice, popular girl too, no less. I also think it makes her feel like she's changed into someone completely different. Someone who is also nice. Not a bully and scary. Which is something she clearly craves and has for quite some time.
I also think the whole "love finds its way to the girl" planted a seed in Susie, making her think Noelle is her special someone written in the prophecy. A prophecy she wants to defy, by the way. There is some cognitive dissonance there, which I think will come to a head in chapter 6 and 7.
But, ultimately, they hardly know each other. They talked here and there, and they did have longer discussions and interactions at Noelle's house, but in comparison to Kris and Ralsei... It's hardly anything. For most of chapters one and two they hardly speak, save for the ferris wheel scene, and three they don't see or talk at all. I think It's a crazy idea for them to have formed a real romantic bond.
I don't think it's meant to last. Eventually one or both of them will figure out they are not who they thought each other were.
I think it's an interesting and underutilized idea for characters like them. Definitely adds a lot of complexities into everything and will probably make everything so much worse down the line.
And then there's Kris. Poor poor Kris. They tried so hard to tell her they like her but she's so oblivious... So wrapped up in her own head to even realize how much she means to them... And I'm not so sure they're just gonna let that go so quickly, considering their bond with Susie.
I dunno. I'm not despairing yet. And if I do despair, it'll be more on the fandom side than Toby's. Because God forbid we all get along and not get uppity/mad when things go certain ways. I think that's the worst part of any fandom of on-going media. Can we just, like... Chill out? For a second? Maybe find common ground elsewhere instead of trying to kill each other over a small part of a much bigger picture?
As a side note, I do not hate Noelle and I do not hate the ship. I just have my opinions and preferences and will always be more on the Krusie side no matter how it plays out.
Anyway, I think that's all my thoughts on it right now. I'll update this if I feel the need to or remember something I forgot about.
UPDATE: As I play this chapter again, doing all the options possible during the festival, something else I noticed...
When you have Susie and Noelle ride the ferris wheel together, they talk about how it got stuck halfway. This does not happen with Susie and Kris. Or so I assume, since no one mentions it. I feel like that's pretty symbolic of everything I talked about above.
And since I only mentioned it in the replies, I'm also gonna add it here:
I don't think it helped that everyone in the Dark World gassed Susie up and called her hang out with Noelle a date, even though it was never called that before Chapter 5 by anyone. I don't… Know why everyone did that. My guess is maybe it's in the same vein as excited parents saying their kid is going on a date but in reality it's just two friends going together somewhere to hang out. Or something. I thought that was a bit weird and put weird ideas into Susie's head about the whole thing.
This is also done after Susie asked Ralsei to the festival, and Kris said (if you select their actual answer at the end of Chapter 2) they'd ask Susie to go to the festival with them (pretty much indirectly asking if she'd go with them, which she indirectly agreed to). So why is her thingy with Noelle taken so much more seriously than those? She says so herself that she asked because they need to get back into Noelle's house for more clues/the code. I mean of course she also felt bad that Carol lashed out at her daughter for no good reason and wants to be friends with her too but... I dunno. Just food for thought.
"i think... i want that."

In honor of the new chapter coming out in 3 days, I'm gonna post this drawing I did when chapters 3 and 4 were still really fresh. I didn't like it at the time (and I still don't) so I never posted it. But I remember working hard on it so... Might as well get it out there.
I don't think anyone needs to despair guys. Susie has literally invited/accepted the invite to the festival from Kris (if you let them give their real answer to her question at the end of chapter 2... Don't be evil), Ralsei, AND Noelle!
And as for us Krusie truthers, not only did she get all blushy and encouraging towards Noelle to dress grim dark more, she did the exact same for Kris when she said they should play piano more while in the Light World. On top of, you know, everything else we've been handed.
Frankly, I think it's all going to be ambiguous with who Susie like-likes at the end. She's so dense (asexual) and has literally no idea all her friends have huge crushes on her, even when they're more forward. And I don't even think Noelle is going to show up to the festival "tomorrow" (2026) because of Carol/Dark World shenanigans, so...
As much as a canon answer would be preferred by many, I think it's better to keep things up in the air. Because if something becomes canon, the fallout is going to be insane. I've said it before, I DON'T want to see or deal with it. Even if it happened to be Krusie I DO NOT want to handle the distraught fans who wanted something else. They'll flood the tag and attack people for sure.
(If you're reading this and know you'd be like that towards any 'rival' shippers, shame on you. Be better.) And, I'll be honest, I care more about the story and the characters as individuals than the shipping. Like, its fun and cute but there's soooo much more to Deltarune than ships! SO much! I feel like people forget that admist the 'ship wars' or what have you. Well, I cannot wait to see what Toby reveals next... Even when I know it'll hurt my heart. ;__;
Anyway, we all take what we can get! I honestly don't think Noelle stands a better chance against Kris (or Ralsei?? I don't feel the chemistry, personally, but I mean. Maybe! I know there are others that do!) and vise versa so there's no need for anyone to fret. Let's just have fun with the story of the blorbos we know and love!
My take on a Mii Susie :D
I should rest my wrist, so I compiled some of my more interesting Saltedspoon sketches. You might be able to roughly tell when I drew them based on some different stylization choices. Something something, foreshadowing is a literaray eleme-
