very much appreciate that murderbot has a full cop story, as in works with the cops, does a bunch of detective work, solves a case no one else could have solved, and comes out of it thinking 'well I'm not doing that again'. so many stories have beloved characters, especially rebellious ones (???), becoming cops as the happy ending and when we have a character that is literally Cop Gender it is given the opportunity to pursue that in a more liberated place and still says no fuck that I'm not doing that. martha wells said oh no not this time not my baby

As I recall, Senior Indah—the actual cop—asks it if it's willing to work on a case with them again, and its answer is, "Only if it's really fucking weird." In other words, no way, won't be a cop, but I will consider being Sherlock Holmes part-time.
