my cousin does crochet... so I asked her to make a simple coaster for my desk and she showed up with this [the word "this" is in all capitals, followed by a crying emoji] I don't even know if I should use it or protect it at all costs

The two photos show the coaster, which has been crocheted in the shape of a lizard with bug eyes. The first photo shows the coaster and a hand about to place a glass on it. The coaster lizard's body is circular but peaked in the center and forms a short, broad cone. This flattened cone is the part of the lizard that actually functions as a coaster. The lizard's head extends horizontally outward from its body, on a relatively long neck. Its legs and tail are also splayed outward from the body.

The second photo shows the coaster after the glass has been placed on it. The weight of the glass has depressed the cone of the lizard body, causing the legs, tail, head and neck to splay upwards instead of outwards. With the head and neck pointing upwards we can see that the lizard's mouth is wide agape and it is sticking out its curled tongue. Coupled with the bug eyes, this makes the lizard look like it is yelling in alarm at the weight of the glass that has been placed on it.
