The MPC gala was live-streamed. Those of us “Peakers” not in attendance had a lovely time messaging on Facebook as we watched. There are about 1500 My Peak Challenge members from 80+ countries attending the MPC Gathering this weekend.  The Edinburgh International Conference Center, where the gala is being held, is the largest such venue in Scotland and can accommodate 2000 guests. So the MPC event is definitely a boon to not only the Conference Center, but the Scottish economy too, as evidenced by the video message sent by Nicola Sturgeon, First Minister of Scotland and leader of the Scottish National Party, and the in-person welcome given by Christina McKelvie, Cabinet Minister.

It is a beautiful thing to be able to witness the growth of MPC over the last 5 years. For me, being part of MPC is an opportunity to contribute to a charity (Bloodwise) which funds research for a disease from which I am in remission -Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Equally as important, I treasure coming to know so many people who have found their way back to health and fitness. I share these stories with the blessing of some of my MPC friends: the mother who was finally able to get into the amusement park rides with her children after losing 100#, the “senior” Peaker who was nearly homebound because of obesity and has now lost weight and regained her mobility as well as the ability to work in her garden, and the young mother who can once again sit on the floor and play with her children - something she hasn’t been able to do for 10 years. 

I have recommended MPC to so many people because it works. It is inexpensive, high quality, and accessible. I research and recommend health behavior modification programs because of the work I do. There are other high quality programs available and MPC is not for everyone. But it has made a tremendous difference in the lives of so many people all over the world. 

I am grateful to Sam and the team he has put together. And just for the record, MPC has never claimed to be a charity. MPC is a social enterprise which provides a program for nutrition and fitness, as well as donating to three charities: Bloodwise, Marie Curie Hospice, and Cahonas Scotland. MPC and organizations like it contribute to the common good. I hope we all continue to contribute to the common good in many and varied ways. Humankind depends on significant numbers of people making a commitment for the long haul to improving the lives of others. Sam is doing that via MPC.
