Well yeah first of all, I’ve made my love for Adam uh…VERY clear lmao. But let’s see…

So, first and foremost I have to say that I love the gore. I’m a sucker for over the top gore and buckets of blood lol. AND the best part about Saw in that regard is, of course, how creative the violence is. John Kramer is a torture genius in his own right. It’s bloody and theatrical and exploitative and gross and just fun. Bonus points for all the bts stuff where the cast and crew look like they’re having a blast filming lol. The traps are super cool and it’s incredibly fun to see them in action. I’m the kind of person who has no problem even watching these movies while eating so it’s an extra thrill when I wince at anything.

As we’ve established, Adam is definitely my favorite character and I’m unhealthily emotionally attached to him, but I ALSO really love Amanda, John “Jigsaw” Kramer himself, David, Scott, and Lynn among others!!

As for tropes, I’m particularly fond of open endings (like in the first movie), the dramatic slamming door that ends most of them, and the thing they do in (almost) every Saw movie with the green and blue color overlays—especially the green one—and the frantic spiny camera work with tons of horrible jarring cuts and flashes. Idk it does something to my brain and I love it. Also fond of when they really humanize John by telling parts of the story from his perspective because it tricks you into genuinely sympathizing and almost agreeing with this violent narcissistic serial killer maniac with an inconsistent philosophy and a savior complex. It’s really cool. Speaking of, I love the ironic punishments and lessons. It feels like layer on in the series it switches from rehabilitation, but I think that’s because [redacted for spoiler reasons] so I don’t mind it. Very Dante’s Inferno, if you catch my drift.

My favorite scenes are definitely the big climaxes of 3-6, the ICONIC scene of Lawrence and Adam at the end of Saw 1, the one of Mark sewing up the giant gash in his face, the autopsy, and pretty much all the reverse bear trap scenes. I also like the lingering one of Lynn where she [redacted for spoiler reasons] all slumped against the wall like a display. The one where detective Matthews is sorta framed by the giant spiral on the doors is also really good.
