The backstory for the horse is that he injures anyone who tries to ride him
I love him. The murder just shines out of his beautiful face
hot take apparently but i think it's good for white people to relate to poc's art. i think it's good for straight people to relate to queer art. stop acting like we're different species who could never possibly understand each other what the fuck is wrong with you
Florence + the Machine heritage post. Literally like this should be required reading for all of their fans it's so iconic
Eating fresh berries off the bush is really such a primal joy. Like not only is it delicious but you feel close to nature, and you’re part of this endless line back to your ancestors before they were even human. We really have always been grabbing delicious fruit to sustain ourselves. In the northern hemisphere now is the perfect time to go blackberrying and I highly recommend! They are p much impossible to confuse with anything inedible so it’s a very easy foraging intro

This is frustrating.
I love the comparison, but I hate how they are comparing.
They are acting like she is using optics to give herself an advantage. But the device she is wearing is just for comfort and essentially does the same thing as closing one eye and squinting the other.
The little thing over the left eye is basically like an eye patch.
And the thing over her right eye is a mechanical iris, like in a camera lens, but it is NOT a lens.
Different lighting environments are going to be brighter or darker and you may have to squint more or less to let in the same amount of light into your eye. Squinting allows the shooter to get the sharpest possible vision in order to shoot a bullseye the size of a 12-point Times New Roman period.
But if you have to squint for hours for practice and in competition, this can strain your face muscles and become uncomfortable. So this iris basically squints for you.
It's more like wearing comfortable shoes so your feet do not hurt than a lens magnifying the target and giving an advantage.
Both athletes have access to these items. One felt more comfortable without them. The other didn't feel like getting a muscle cramp from squinting all day.
Either would have shot the same if they had or had not used these devices.
Just a funny difference in gear preference.
I should also add, the Turkish dad is the only one using lenses.
I'd just like to add that Kim Yeji may look like a cool cyborg badass, but she and the Turkish dad only won silver.
The gold medal winner in the women's air pistol finals was adorable and a bit overshadowed.
Oh Ye-jin, who is only 19, won gold and set an Olympic record with her final score.
Kim Yeji is her mentor and seems very supportive of her.
Also, Oh Ye-jin added a little heart to the barrel blocking thingie.
I mean, it's like she got lost at summer camp and just wandered into the Olympics to win gold.
I think she deserves some attention too.
When I was watching the competition I kept wondering why they never showed the actual target as it was being shot. On the broadcast they just show a graphic of the target.
And then the commentator said the bullseye was literally the size of a period—smaller than the actual pellets they are shooting. And that the entire target was the size of a coin.
They'd have to set up a macro lens next to every target for you to see them.
Pretty much every shot lands within the 3 inner circles. And if you hit the 3rd circle your shot is basically garbage. Like you'd see the shooters grimace and do an angry little foot stomp if they hit it there.
Like, if you get a 7 you might as well go home.
And the best shot possible is a 10.9—which would be hitting as close to the bullseye as can be measured.
This was Oh Ye-jin's final gold medal winning shot.
A 10.6!
It's absolutely bonkers how precise these shooters are.
I mean... look at this period...
.
Now imagine trying to shoot it from 30 feet away.
I don't think my old ass could even see the damned thing.
Thank you for the context, my nearsighted ass did NOT know this.
dance fever is just such a great fucking album man. "you say that rock and roll is dead, but is that just because it has not been resurrected in your image?" is still one of my favourite lyrics of all time. 'king' flummoxes me every time i listen to it. it's got myth vs realism. deification and iconoclasm. art as communal experience, as identity, as the lines between individual healing, catharsis, and destruction. #depression, self-sabotage, nostalgia. madonna-whore complex mockery. "it's good to be alive, crying into cereal at midnight" "when i decided to wage holy war, it looked very much like staring at my bedroom floor" it's got humour. "what a thing to admit, that when someone looks at me with real love, i don't like it very much. kinda makes me feel like i'm being crushed." !! there's a whole song where the chorus is just the word daffodil over and over again and it's a banger.
also there was a real gap in the market for an album based around a 14th century european mass hysterical dancing epidemic so i'm glad that got filled.
Capitalism creates scarcity to increase profit.
My favourite gay joke my dad has ever told was when I was cooking chips for dinner, and we only had half a bag of straight-cut chips and half a bag of crinkly cut and he said I couldn't eat any of the straight ones and we both almost p*ssed ourselves laughing
Welp I hope everyone's evening went better than mine because I tripped over my own feet while sitting down and tossed a plate of pasta and mascarpone halfway across my parents living room. I am nearly 30

Tesla is tanking so hard it is dragging the entire EV segment's sales down into the negative. When you omit Tesla from the equation, EV sales are up 13% across the board.
Don't let anyone tell you EV sales are in a slump.
Ok, real quick, speaking as a librarian, you absolutely cannot despair about the adult literacy crisis and shame adults for reading fiction books you do not personally care for or think are "challenging" at the same time. It doesn't work with kids, and it doesn't work with adults.
Here's how to increase someone's reading level:
1) Let them read whatever they choose without shame or judgment. Maybe get them talking about it using open-ended, non-leading questions to encourage critical thinking and comprehension.
2) Let them get bored after a while and seek out different books.
3) Repeat.
