Having the target's permission certainly helps, since they are then an active participant in making the magic happen, but if you choose to protect them in secret, that's fine too.

Think of it like holding an umbrella over their head. It helps if they know the umbrella is there so they can stay underneath it, but even if they don't notice, it still keeps the rain off.

(I will note that some witches will disagree with this, since some traditions insist that even beneficial magic shouldn't be worked on anyone without their knowledge and permission. I don't happen to subscribe to that idea, so this is just my take.)

Sea Water:

Water collected from the seas, I prefer from rough waters. That’s where the sea gets her energy. This water can be used to cleanse and heal, great for cleaning non-water soluble crystals. It can also be used for banishing and protection.  

Storm Water:

This is different than Rain water. It’s when the air changes. When the clouds are dark and you feel your power grow. This water is great for emotional strength and confidence spells. It can charge, motivate and add force to any spells. If you are into dark magick, storm water is great for curses

River Water: 

River water, that which is also moving, always flowing. This water is good for moving on, as the water in the river does. It’s helps with focusing your energy, or breaking through rough times. This can also be used to power your tools in anointment. 

Rain Water:

This water can almost completely universal. Anything you could need water for, rain water can do in a pinch. It’s also especially good for growth, and rebirth. 

Snow Water:

This can be hard to come across depending on where you live. Water gathered from melting snow. If you do have it where you live, this water can be used fro purity spells, and change. As well as slow working spells, or spells you want to lay dormant for a little while. 

Dew Water: 

The water that gathered on the grass in the morning, that makes your feet shiver when your barefoot. This water is great to use for love and fertility. It helps with any delicate workings that need a gentle touch. As well as working with the Fae. 

Moon Water:

sometimes after performing a spell, you find yourself wondering, hmm, what do i do with these ingredients? the way you clean up or put away your materials can be its own step in the ritual, and affect the spell. here are some suggestions for the different ways to end rituals or properly dispose of the materials 

consider first:

📦keep it - consider if the spell seems like something you could ever possible need to reverse later. that love-attraction jar may invite people you don’t like, and need to be ended, but it’s more difficult without the original materials. keep the ingredients in a jar, box, or something, (maybe label it too) so you can easily nullify the spell if you need to.

✉wrap it up - in a jar or a pouch, if it is a spell you want to last a long time, gather the ingredients you won’t be reusing and keep them in a place you

🏺jar spells - just keep the materials in the sealed jar. this is the sort of spell that can be reused simply by shaking the jar, lighting a new candle for it or recharging its energy. 

🔔cleanse and reuse - obviously you don’t want to throw your crystals or jars out after a single spell. separate the materials used and cleanse them individually, cutting the ties to the spell. 

now what do i do with it?

🔥it’s been burned to ash - for banishing place it on the back doorstep and sweep it out into the wind. for releasing its energies and inviting influence, release the ashes into running water, given it is safe to return to nature (non glass, nonplastic nontoxic, biodegradable etc)

🕸bound objects - bury or keep in a box somewhere, burial for spells you will never remove, hiding for things you may undo one day. 

🛡protective spells - best hung up or hidden in a corner of the house, or place over the front door of the residence.

What is Dream Interpretation?

It is assigning meaning to dreams, meaning using what one dreams of and the symbols, objects and events of the dream to relate them to the psychological, emotional and sometimes spiritual state of the dreamer. Some use it as a way to divine and predict the future while others use it to help assess their emotional states and subconscious thoughts they may be ignoring in waking life.

Mermaids

To see a mermaid in your dream it often signifies the feminine side of the dreamer - mystery, vulnerability, beauty and your secretive side. Sometimes, to those who dream of them, it may represent the fear of sex or of one’s own femininity (no matter one’s gender/identified gender). They can also represent the dreamer’s doubts, especially when it comes to one’s own appearance and sexual attractiveness.

To see a merman in your dream it is usually a subconscious desire to feel like you belong and to be apart of something. Often it is a desire to be noticed by your peers or those around you or to be included into the activities and social networking of others. Seeing a Mermaid: you are feeling mysterious and secretive right now; for those who identify as male it often relates to fear of femininity and being seen as weak by peers; for those who identify as female it often can relate to feeling insecure while around others

Being a Mermaid: to be a mermaid in you dream it may relate to your own vanity - possibly even you questioning yourself over your vanity. It may also represent that you are, in waking life, trying to manipulate others into doing something you want them to do. It may also indicate you are speaking before you take others’ feelings into consideration. You are provoking reactions out of them, perhaps even purposefully. People maybe starting to view you as vain, insensitive and overall arrogant and you may subconsciously be realizing that. as some consider mermaids to be a type of fae creature, it is important to note they do not immediately trust humans and it is something to be done with caution. with some research into the lore, here is what i’ve come up with;

what you will need:

🌊 mirrors play a significant part in mermaid lore, so when contacting a mermaid, a mirror is the first thing needed. 

🌊 a shallow bowl of water

🌊 knowledge of / experience with astral traveling

🌊 a pendulum, or other tool of divination. 

procedure:

🌊 know what you want to talk to the mermaid about, and consider first the trust level you need when asking, as somethings are sensitive information. 

do you have questions regarding them, or magic?

do you wish to work with them on a spell?

🌊 place the mirror in the water, place offerings around the edges of the bowl. 

🌊 engage with the astral plane at least partially.

🌊 take your hand and place it in the water when you invoke the name of a mermaid. remove your hand immediately after. 

🌊 use the pendulum or method of divination to receive their answers. 

🌊 when you are done, place the offerings in the water and let sit. 

🌊 remove the mirror before you pour out the water, try to touch the water minimal amounts when removing. 

respect and safety: 

🌊  like any spiritual or magical creature, you must respect the ones you work with. however, mermaids are also known from lore to be hostile towards humans, particularly the bit with luring away and drowning.

Hi guys!! I absolutely adore the idea of pop-culture spells, so I thought I’d make a Mermaid Melody inspired spell to help strengthen your bond with the sea! Great for landlocked sea witches or for witches in general who would like to work more with the ocean’s energy~

*Keep in mind that this spell is mainly a guideline! Feel free to add or detract from it as you see fit*

Background:

In spellwork, mermaids can be treated as a type of water spirit or fae that can be honored/called to, an archetype/symbol, etc., and they play a major role in various cultures’ folklore—the sirens of Greece, Atargatis of Syria, the selkies of Scotland. But what other relevance do they hold in regards to spiritualism/the occult?

You’ve all heard of Atlantis and of the mermaid folklore surrounding it—but another, lesser-known theoretical “lost land” was called Lemuria (also known as Mu or the Motherland). There are many theories regarding the colonization of Earth… in this theory, it’s believed that “star people” (light beings from other star systems, like Sirius) colonized on Earth to experience a physical, mortal existence. This could also be connected to the idea of starseeds, the theory that some people have had lives in other star systems in the Universe.

In Lemuria, there were various types of beings including those who seemed to be able to shift their shapes according to their needs (possibly due to the fact that for a large period of time, Mu and its beings did not exist fully in the physical plane). Some of these “shapeshifters” had the ability to breathe underwater. I’ve spoken with many different people who claim to have had a past life in Lemuria, and one common thread is that nearly all of them recalled having a mermaid obsession from a young age and that they had seen themselves as a mermaid in Mu upon doing past life regressions. Throughout the many past life regressions I have done in my life, I have seen Lemuria myself! Lucy Cavendish, the creator of Witchcraft magazine in 1992 (the first of it’s kind in the world) also talks about her past life in Lemuria and her connection to mermaids in her works. Whether you think you have a connection to Mu, Atlantis, Sirius, or the ocean in general, you may have a mermaid within you!

What you’ll need:

🔮✨ A locket that you can store herbs inside (in Mermaid Melody, they had adorable shell necklaces… there are some super affordable clam shell lockets available on eBay and etsy, but feel free to use what you have! An alternative could be a pearl necklace that you charge in a mixture of moon water and the herbs listed below)

🔮✨ Rosemary

🔮✨ Kelp (optional)

🔮✨ Dill (optional)

🔮✨ Labradorite (for transformation and for strengthening your intuition/abilities/natural power; cleanse and charge it in the light of the full moon before use. Appropriate substitutes would be moonstone, aquamarine, or clear quartz. Lemurian seed crystal would also be great as it is associated with mermaids)

🔮✨ Rosemary essential oil

🔮✨ Sea salt (for when you cast your circle)

🔮✨ Moon water (optional)

The Spell:

Before you do anything, meditate. This should be common sense at this point though, the expansion of your consciousness and practice with visualization and feeling energies is directly correlated with your power and it’s potential. Do so in a comfortable spot where you will not be bothered. Listen to meditation music/binaural beats–I highly recommend listening to this meditation song I found on youtube, it gives me such powerful mermaid vibes! Hold your labradorite or crystal substitute in your hand while meditating and visualize its energy filling you. Silence your mind and feel your connection to the ocean deepen. When you feel ready, begin.

Etch a sigil representing the moon or ocean into your four candles–it can be one you create yourself, one you find on the internet, or something simple like the crescent moon symbol or a wave itself! Anoint them with your rosemary essential oil by rubbing a few drops in your palms (note: please dilute it!! Do not put a neat essential oil on your skin) and rub them together. Starting at the center of the candle, work your hands in both directions to each end. You may prefer to use a twisting motion in order to coat the candle thoroughly. Focus on your intent, visualizing the ocean and connecting to her energy. In the process, you are charging your candles. Place each candle in each of the cardinal directions in a circle around you and light them while casting your circle. This would be a good time to invoke the Mermaids, sea nymphs, Poseidon, Amphitrite, Liban, Aphrodite, or another ocean-related deity if you choose to do so. Have an offering present for them: good offering ideas are sea glass, crab claws (ethically sourced of course), fishing net, or sea shells!

In the center of your circle, have your locket and herbs ready (or bowl of moon water and herbs, depending on the necklace) and fill the locket with them. Rosemary, meaning “Rose of the Sea,” is known for its affection for growing by the sea–I recommend also adding kelp, seaweed, or dill if you have it, but rosemary alone would suffice! After you have filled the locket, hold it by your heart and chant (or sing, as singing is a devotional act towards many sea deities!):

Power of the moon, power of the sea,

Bless this locket with your energy–

Release the mermaid confined within,

May her spirit’s reign begin.

Anoint the locket with diluted rosemary oil or moon water and put it on.

Going around in a circle, blow out each of the four candles while chanting:

Ad astra, (to the stars,) Ad undas, (to the waves,) De profundis, (from the depths,) Ego excitetur. (I have woken.)

Thank the Gods/deities for their aid and close your circle. I would recommend taking a mermaid-themed bath as a way of cleansing! Wear your locket as an amulet and when you practice magick, use it as a source of power~

On one side this may look like just a ordinary clam shell but when you flip it over it contains beautiful golden calcite crystals. The crystals formed when the clam died and a cavity formed allowing the crystals to develop. Took over two million years to do this. Found on the east coast of Florida in Brevard County.
