Summary: Jon and Dany are friends. Best friends, actually, who talk all the time. Literally—they never miss their weekly call, despite being on different continents. But seriously, they’re just friends. Right?

Jon texted Daenerys to let her know he wouldn’t be able to make their call, not feeling up for much human interaction after his and Val’s abrupt breakup. He was vague in his reason, and when Daenerys pushed, he tried to deflect, but then she just ended up calling him, anyway.
“What’s wrong? Why do you look like someone just told you The Night’s Watch just broke up?” she demanded when he answered her FaceTime call.
Wincing at the too-close-for-comfort question, he couldn’t help but laugh. “Don’t even joke about that.” The Night’s Watch was his favorite band, and he really didn’t think he could take anymore breakup news. He squinted at his phone suddenly. “What the hell is on your face?”
She touched her cheek, her lips barely moving as she spoke. “It’s a charcoal mask. Not all of us are blessed with flawless skin like you are. Don’t change the subject. What’s going on?”
“I don’t have flawless skin.”
Her nostrils flared—as much as they could flare in that charcoal mask. “Jon.”
He sighed. “Nothing’s going on.”
“So you were going to bail on me for nothing?”
Groaning, Jon rubbed his eyes. “No. It’s just…Val and I just broke up,” he mumbled. When he looked at her, her face fell.
“Oh, Jon. What happened?”
He hunched forward over his knees on the couch. “I don’t know. Things have been weird lately, and I guess she just got sick of me. I’m sure she probably told you.”
Daenerys shook her head adamantly. “No. I honestly had no idea. I haven’t spoken to her much lately. She takes days to respond to my texts, if she does at all. You’re the only person from the gang that I really still talk to.” She tried to make a sympathetic face. “Dumb question, I’m sure, but are you OK?”
He huffed out a self-deprecating laugh. “I mean it never feels great getting dumped, but I guess I’m…well, I’m surprised I don’t feel worse, I guess. Mostly it’s just my ego that’s wounded. Maybe I’ll feel sadder later when I’ve had time to think about it.”
