At a time when Netflix is getting roundly criticized for forcing its shows to treat the audience like we have all of two brain cells to rub together, The Vampire Lestat is out here volleying everything from 70s gay references to 1700s Dutch Republic references at the speed of light while saying, "You don't get it? Can't wait for people who hate The Vampire Lestat to maybe one day stop watching um, The Vampire Lestat, because while innocently scrolling the tag or browsing other socials, I've had to see multiple posts about how homophobic this season is and I'm like um. Do you mean the show where Lestat sings "I am a meteor / colliding / writing your name in dust as I fall" to a teary-eyed Louis while they stare into each other's eyes???? Or the show where Daniel shoves Armand against a wall and Armand starts talking about pseudo-stalking Daniel for most of his life??? Or the one where Lestat had sex in an elevator with a woman, a nonbinary person, and a man all at once?? Or the one where we see Nicki asking Lestat " are you going to teach me how to be a man, Lestat de Valois?" and then it cuts to them having sex in a candlelit flat? Ghost Claudia is searching desperately for her dead wife in some kind of purgatory??? That show?????
If anything, I've noted Lestat in his own POV, without Louis' own early shame about his sexuality muddling the view of himself and Lestat both, behaving in an even more queer way than before? His gender nonconformity, the way he speaks, his just general behavior. All of it is beating in the veins of the season. But whatever! People on the internet didn't get a sex scene exactly how they wanted it, or something, so that means it's not queer.

If you haven't already watched Autumn Brown's interview with episode 6 director Jane Wu, I highly recommend it. Autumn clearly loves and cares about the show and everything that goes into creating it.

I don't want to add to that post because I don't care about the op seeing my reply but I want to add that when actors hate the shows they're in it's pretty visible contract or not. I still remember an actor from games of thrones saying that if she had known what they would make her do she wouldn't have taken the role and the show was still airing when she said that Β―β \β _β (β γβ )β _β /β Β― maybe the iwtv actors are all lying but I sense genuine excitement and love for their roles and it's pretty fucked up to think that actual adults are being tortured on set and are unable to escape
literally. i don't know where people got this idea that Rolin Jones is this evil mastermind who has all the actors locked away in this evil factory and has brainwashed them into liking the show. it's weird because it's the same people who defend the first two seasons who come up with this stuff...as if Rolin Jones was not the creator of them as well. as if IWTV would even exist if it was not for him. so which is it? is he a vile bigot and a terrible writer? or is he the man who created this 'legendary writers room' with black writers to create the masterpiece two first seasons that you revere so much? all the arguments just collapse so fast it's not even worth arguing sometimes.
Also? People forget that Jacob Anderson learned some harsh lessons from working on Game of Thrones himself. Which is why he didn't sign a seasons-long contract with IWTVL the way that Sam did. He is taking things with the show season-by-season instead.
So, if that man wanted to walk away? He could because he is not locked into a long-term contract with the show.
So yes, Jacob knew exactly what was up wrt Season 3 before he came back to do it. And he did it, happily so, even mocking those who thought the show was screwing him over with the switch to Lestat during their Comic-Con panel last year (Start: 10:48):
Some people are just desperate to think/want Jacob to hate the show and be a victim in all of this to justify their own hatred of the show, and it not being what they imagined the show to be about in their heads.
And that, from everything we actually have seen from Jacob and know via how he's actually been moving wrt the show, that he does not hate the show. Even in the recent TV guide interview, he talked about the collaborative process wrt the seance scene and the input he himself had with it when it came to Louis' character and the things Louis said during it and acted in it, just as Delainey did for Claudia during the After Dark episode right after:

So yeah, some people in fandom are just desperate to see Jacob as some sort of victim in all of this, and if you actually look at how he is moving and acting with the show? He clearly does NOT see HIMSELF in that way!
Hell, just in his most recent interview with Sam on Autumn's podcast, he was quite happy and joyful.
And yes, Rolin Jones was also the creator and showrunner of IWTV, the two seasons they supposedly love. Do they really think those two seasons were only the way they were because of the two different black writers who wrote for each season -- and even then, only co-wrote one episode each? π
And yes, when such things are actually happening to black actors, they are very easy to spot IMO. I spotted it with Nichole Bahari during Season 2 of Sleepy Hollow, for example. And, though I never watched the show, there are fans of The Vampire Diaries who spotted it with Kat Graham at some point as well.
In contrast, I have seen none of those things with either Jacob or Delainey. Maybe they could be lying, but all I've seen is clear enthusiasm, with Jacob even saying in After Dark EP6 that he wants to play more disturbing characters going forward.
Anyway, at the end of the day, all three seasons of this show were mainly Rolin Jones' doing. Because it is HIS VISION of all the books that are set to be adapted that the show is doing.
So yes, either Rolin is still the legendary genius who made Seasons 1 and 2 of IWTV, or he's always been a racist hack holding Jacob hostage that people now want to paint him as for Season 3.
Even though, again, Jacob himself has yet to show any signs of being miserable, and, given the way his contract is, he could actually walk away at any time if he wanted to and not come back.
Something he clearly wanted to do with his contract after having actually dealt with two actual abusive hack showrunners on Game of Thrones for years.
