You are the light behind my eyes

Safety was important to the university–even if it wasn’t needed as often here, they really really wanted everyone to feel safe and make sure that no one felt as if they were being left behind, or something. Namjoon had seen Omegas just pack up and leave in the middle of the night due to a sudden scare over a rumor, even. It didn’t look good for that to happen with a dozen omegas overnight because one alpha decided to be a douchebag and make something up..or worse, carry through with something.

“His daughter is an omega,” he murmured once the other came close again, standing near the other, but not hovering around him like some sort of alpha-helicopter. He could be protective and mindful without somehow suffocating the poor omega. Nodding at the mention of fineliners, he offered a smile, “I like using them every so often, but I don’t like super-clean lines in my own work,” they just didn’t look organic, but sometimes he found uses for them.

But Suga was off quite quickly, and the alpha watched him curiously. He didn’t blame him for being…suspicious? And possibly grumpy at alphas, but it was weird seeing an omega so..aggressive, but not. Maybe he was just used to docile, though that just made him even more curious. He himself had grabbed a few new tubes of paint, and they were outside and on their way soon after.

Sadly for Suga, Namjoon was almost too good at his assignments of being buddied up with new students, omega or otherwise. It’d be hard to get rid of him for a while. The alpha either didn’t catch on to dislike very quickly, or he did and just ignored it–the world may never know. It wasn’t as if he was easily offended, especially by a grumpy omega.

Onward to coffee, then…the older glanced down to him once he’d tucked the paints into his bag, now somewhat curious. “Parties?” Well this would be an interesting topic. “Second and third years are usually the ones to throw them, almost every weekend…You’ll probably hear about them in the dorms,” he nodded and offered a smile, “I’m not a big…partier,” if that wasn’t obvious. He was kind of a nerd.

The rest of the afternoon went well. Namjoon was able to give Suga the new pepper spray, which not only temporarily blinded both the attacker’s smell and sight, but also blasted them with color so they couldn’t just run off and pretend like it wasn’t them if they washed off their face and got rid of the peppery aftershock from their eyes and nose…and mouth, probably. The color couldn’t be removed without a special type of soap, so. Made it easier to catch culprits (though had a possibility for abuse, they dealt with it on a case-to-case basis.)

Coffee, food, some rules laid out..such as no Alphas or betas in the omega dorm (unless they were assigned to them, like Namjoon, but even so, he had to sign in and sign out so if something happened they knew when he was there, and if he wasn’t signed in, then they knew shenanigans were afoot.) Classes started at this time, omegas could show up at this time, and leave at that time…safety, blahblah. Suga had probably read through a lot of it, but still, he’d been told to make sure the other understood, so…he tried his best.

With that all worked out, he checked again with the omega to make sure he didn’t need any further help, then told him goodbye and headed to his own apartment for the evening. And Namjoon had been correct, there were indeed parties within days of everyone moving into their doorms. Classes would be starting in a few days, so of course there were be huge parties to ‘get to know’ one another, and to break rules before school even started. Namjoon had heard of them, and half wondered of Suga would be going…since he saw that Jungkook was also going to the biggest one that evening, happily bragging about scoring an omega as a date…but wanting more.

Lord.

Suga liked clean lines, something that was clear and precise. Abstract art wasn’t his forte. He did not say that of course and just nodded at the bit of information that the store-owner’s daughter was an omega. His protectiveness more okay in context but still. He did not like it- how people always assumed and how the world was.

He was very fond of the pepper spray and had snorted as Namjoon said he did not go to parties. Sure, he would be paired up with the most boring alpha around. Well, he supposed that was good. He didn’t need some aggressive alpha around him all the time. “Thanks.” he had simply said after he googled the product on his phone and then pocketed the item with a nod.

The rules were boring and Suga was unpacking his fine liners as the other explained and nodded absent-mindedly. He waved as the other left, remaining to scribble in his notebook and making some notes and plans for himself. He did not need an escort to his dorm- which was the primary reason he didn’t leave when the other did. Wanting to make sure the other (and he, himself) knew that he dd not need anyone. He got this, damn it.

Parties were fun. Suga did not think so always but he had heard they were fun and he wanted to get to know a few people. Suga did like cigarettes and alcohol which was what made parties worth it and he had found one of the invites to a big one that night and he had made sure to find the location and dress up before he went. He knew he looked good- his hair falling half over his face as he walked into the mansion where some rich Beta was hosting the event. He didn’t know anyone here but he was sure it would be fine.

He had taken enough suppressants to not stand out too much and he quickly found his way to the table with booze and grabbed some shady mixture before finding a lonely bench and sitting down as he stared at the people having a great time.

Of course, trouble came. It came in the shape and form of Jungkook who swaggered towards him and smirked. Suga scowled and rolled his eyes at the other as they sat down next to him.

“I’m not interested.” he pointed out and got up- walking away and mixing in with the crowd before Jungkook could say something. Anxiety crept up- what the fuck was the other doing here and how had he found him so quickly?

With his cigarette between his fingers he typed out some texts to friends back home and then noticed a presence next to him again- again Jungkook. He rolled his eyes and then continued to ignore and walk away from the alpha who wasn’t as aggressive as the first time but insistent.

He wanted to know his name again and Suga was not here for that as he pocketed his phone and stared at the taller alpha, smoking and blowing the smoke in the other’s face. Which was… a mistake. He found that out as Jungkook only stepped closer to him and towered over the tiny omega who glared up. Feeling semi-safe in the very public area, continuing to smoke but he felt anxious and he knew the other would be able to smell it- fuck.

“The fuck do you want.” He didn’t get an answer when he saw an even taller figure coming to them from the right.

What the fuck was he doing here?!

💥bridezilla. 

Joohyun watched him as he spoke, it was a drastic change of the man she was speaking to moments ago. Maybe this was the conversation they had to have but it wasn’t going her way, she had to recognize that. The enchanted doll did not want to make the boogey angry. 

Joohyun wasn’t afraid of dying, she just didn’t want to do it. Reaching up to touch the two charms of her choker -her life line- she didn’t want to lose the friends she made, all the stuffed animals and outfits she has. Her kitten. She didn’t want to lose any of that. She had a feeling if she died she wouldn’t be coming back. 

But something sparked interest in the other. “It hurts you” she repeated, then once again “makes you angry” that was something she didn’t account for. Someone else’s feelings, that’s not what she wanted, the exact opposite. She wanted them all to be happy, happy together but maybe she wasn’t supposed to be part of the equation, the two of them were happy before her. They have each other. Who was she to make either of them feel anything other than happy? 

She looked at him. They watched each other, he looked different, she couldn’t understand what was going on in his head but he didn’t look the same way she usually saw him. She did that to him. 

The dark cloud returned over her head (heheh) she had a lot to think about now but one thing was for certain. “I’m sorry” she whispered and this time she truly meant it, she never wanted something like to happen to make Suga feel angry because of her own self. 

She couldn’t stay here, it’s best for her to go. The enchanted doll often forgets how much feelings affect the ones who could truly feel them. It was easy for her.It was time for her to go. 

She smiled, a big joyful smile plastered on her lips like she was trained to do. A smile that would put the plastic bitch Barbie to shame. Her rehearsed showboat high earning smile. She should go, this was for the best. Too many things, too many thoughts swirling in her head, she wasn’t used to it and it was something she didn’t like. 

She let go of her charms that she only realized she was clutching tightly, it was like she was resetting her body. Resetting herself would be easier than whatever the hell was going on right now. 

Without another word without another glance to the bogey she walked over to the apartment door and quietly left. This was for the best. 

She was the oil to the fire that was his rage- she knew how to press all the buttons that upset the boogey and he was sure part of it was unconscious. Yet he also did not think she was completely innocent, she couldn’t be. On some level she had to be aware of what she was doing to him- how it made him feel and how it looked…

She left and he did not stop her- he wanted her to go and finally she did. Namjoon could not see him like this- the boogey quickly texted Namjoon that he was out hunting before melting into the ground and disappearing as he let himself slip into the world where he felt most at ease and existed in the hatred he felt. A dark sea he liked to drift into and disappear for a while.

Part of him wondered where the doll went but not enough of him to actually go looking for her. Maybe she would leave them alone now, maybe she would stop trying to butt in where she wasn’t wanted.

He didn’t know. He needed to feed.

He followed a child’s laughter.

“Being haunted doesnt sound pleasant. Must suck for ghost too, having to work in the after life. Think its punishment?”

He was rambling he was aware, but what else did someone do when talking to not a ghost who lived in the catacombs? “You have a fiance?” A soft hum followed by an even softer sigh. “Must be nice…t-thank you. ”

This was supposed to have been an easy dare, a stroll in the catacombs to prove he wasnt afraid of the dark - he loved the dark, fools. What he hadnt anticipated was someone being down there and he realized now he had been the butt of the prank and fallen -literally- into what they wanted. Now he was sat, waiting for a not ghost to bring him a first aid kit and really it was all kind of confusing.

The thud of gauze landing near him caught his attention and he patted around till he found it.

“Thanks…uh…i dont know who you are. Sorry to intrude. I was told this place was empty. Its very nice, your home. Very quiet…” He wasn’t doing a good job of keeping it that way. “I’m new. Do you go to the academy too?”

He did not know what to think of the deal with working class ghosts and did not want to think much on it if he was honest. Instead he focused on the other man as he was rambling. “Yes, it is very nice having a fiance.” What an odd thing to say to him- maybe the other had not only suffered physical harm but also got hurt- well, mentally.

After getting the plasters and making sure the door to his apartment was properly locked he returned to the other man. “It isn’t empty at all, we live here and all the ghosts too. I am pretty sure there are some nagini and such sometimes here too- I see the tracks and couples come here to make love, sometimes with the ghosts too.” there was a light smile on his lips at that.

“It is quiet usually-” a pointed look “most of the ghosts dont really make many sounds and the couples pick more romantic places in the catacombs and not… these.” he gestured, this wasn’t very spacious and it was kind of dirty. Suga enjoyed it like this, made it less inviting to people (didn’t work with this kid, apparently).

💥bridezilla. 

Hearing that sugar had no one also was nice, maybe that meant he could understand where she was coming from. She hoped he did. She felt much more reassured when he mentioned Nam not forgetting about her and caring about her. That’s all she wanted. She looked at the man on the couch and frowned, he looked different, he looked tired. She didn’t want him to be like that, only happy a Suga kind of happy. 

She continued to silently listen to him as she watched him standing up from the couch, she took a step closer but not too close, she didn’t want to anger him again. They stared at each other she was unsure why he was apologizing she was the one who made him mad. It was her fault. 

Her whole demeanor changed when he called the enchanted doll pretty, she smiled at him her perfect pearly whites showing and her red glossed lips turned upward into a bright smile. It was always nice to be called pretty, she loved it. 

But now it was her turn to think of her words. Joohyun didn’t know just how close she was to death moments before. She was more focused on the rage the Boogey had. Namjoon had warned her, it was a side of Suga -someone she saw as a friend- never thought she would see. She didn’t like it. Namjoon said that was the feeling of being afraid “I’m scary” She whispered to herself not thinking if Suga heard her or not. 

But that didn’t seem right, not the right emotion. She didn’t like seeing the Boogey like that, yelling and angry. Joohyun did not like that she brought that side out of him. She wished to never see Suga like that again. The enchanted doll tried to think back, to everything Namjoon taught her, the countless hours of dramas that she watched. When the main character fights with their partner, somehow they end up walking outside and it of course starts to rain. Slow music in the background lays as the camera cuts close to their face, tears falling down their cheeks as they cry. That’s it….”Not scared, I’m sad” She said it louder not particularly looking at the other, that made more sense. “Not scared of Suga, Sad for angry Suga” She clarified, it was like she was finally understanding.

Now with a new light, she met the other’s gaze knowing what she wanted to say.

“But I don’t want to take Namjoon away from you. I thought you were going to take Namjoon from me!”

 Joohyun didn’t want the Boogey to get mad again but she felt like she has to get it out in the current moment. She wasn’t going to have another chance. 

“You are right we do have different roles in Nam’s life….You love him, you do porn things with him, you guys kiss and tough and stuff” She was on the verge of rambling on but she reeled herself back in. “I don’t want any of that with him. I don’t like those things at all! I didn’t even like him touching me when we first met and I still have trouble with it now, It’s not easy for me. I don’t like kissing or touching and especially not porn things with other people, Just myself!” 

She mimicked a sigh with her nonexistent lungs as she pulled on the fabric of the end of her skirt. An enchanted doll was always supposed to be happy but with everything going on in that movement she didn’t know what was happening to her. 

“I just wanted to be his best friend forever, I wanted all of us to be happy. I didn’t want to lose him…or you” 

He felt like he was older than he was- and yet he was already so old. Older than her- older than Namjoon by so many years… decennia or even eons by now. He couldn’t remember when he first was summoned into existence by fear and hatred. A morbid beginning for the boogey who had once just been the purest form of dread. His arms elongated slightly as he was too tired to keep them short. Gravity fought him on this one and he felt like the ground itself was dragging him down. He felt so tired…

She smiled and it hurt him- like Children on Christmas eve. He hated those too, too happy- they did not know what life had in store for them- often nearing the end of his children-devouring days he had thought to himself he had done them a favour by consuming them. Yes, to die was a better fate than to live in this horrid world. How egoistical of parents to put their children here. Truly. His mis-matched eyes just looked at her as she spoke. They weren’t a pretty mismatched either- just slightly off after he had been hurt and his eye taken away. Now one was lighter than the other and while he was a creature of imagination this was due to his own belief and thus everyone around him saw him like this- strengthening the belief that his eyes would never be the same again. Just a little off- much like the boogey felt about himself.

Just a little off.

“You should be scared of me, not sad.” he told her, voice low and tired. His brows twitched at the mention of porn. He had done porn things with others- with Namjoon even the filthiest round of fucking was lovemaking. Though he recognized that this was a futile difference and not worth pointing out.

“Where else does one go to disassociate? A silent place is usually best, really suits the vibe.” At this point the boy wasn’t sure if this was even real, it was so dark. “Ah, dummy.” Whoever was showing didn’t seem to be close enough for it to matter if his eyes were visible and so Jungkook reached up sliding his glasses off. Even with the shades Remer the area was still too dark but he could just make it a hazy figure.

He stopped patting the wall, hand stilling against the rock. “I like dead people, they don’t ask questions… well not if they’re dead dead.” Ghost were sometimes a thing. “Are you a ghost?” Why else would be be living in a tomb? ‘I apologize if so, i have no need to be haunted and i didn’t mean to disturb your grave.“ Maybe his fall was the result of this haunting.

"Blood? Wait did I…” dumbfounded the siren reached up touching the spot that seemed to be radiating pain. His fingers came back wet. “Wait did you…you’re an interesting type arent you? Might need a large plaster…good thing I’m not nauseous right?” He laughed as he stumbled again hitting his knee on the rocks.

“Damn ghost.”

He could think of a few places and all of them did not include his home. Though he did not say that right now, instead he stared at the man. Making a face at the idea of going here to disassociate. He took a step back when the other stepped closer.

“That is kind of an icky thinig to say- about dead-dead people.” Suga commented to the other and wondered if he had stumbled (or well the other stumbled into him) into a necrophiliac. He didn’t usually yuck on other people’s yum and he was a cannibal in some people’s eyes (he did not think so, he wasn’t human after all so it wasn’t cannibalism). Though even this accused-cannibal had his boundaries. Fucking corpses was definitely one. “I’m not a ghost. I am also not dead, or dead-dead.” that much should be clear by now.

“I wouldn’t haunt you even if I was one.”

Sick burn, Suga.

He watched the other slump down and sighed. “Listen, I am not bringing you inside since my fiance is in there and I don’t trust you but I’ll go get the medkit and you can fix yourself up. Don’t faint or I leave you here to become what you love.

Dead-dead that is.

Namjoon was, admittedly, both stunned in a good and bad way that Suga would come here to do classes at this age. The first two years were just not safe. Even after two years it wasn’t always safe… but at least by then most Alphas had their shit under control, and the medications had gathered enough in Omegas to not allow for many, uh…mess-ups. Betas did well either way, usually, except for some aggressive ones. Oh to be a middle-man with little to worry about.

“I’m not a huge stickler about time, though. My classes are pretty chill and I’m normally ahead, I’ve just naturally paranoid about being late–so I get to places too early,” he sighed. Ah well. “So no worries about being late. Just…text me or something, so I don’t worry,” after this Jungkook thing he was already worried.

“Oh…you shouldn’t do that, I’ve heard that those suppressants go wonky when you don’t eat with them?” He paused and took in a quick breath, “I mean, that’s just what I’ve been told, I’m sorry,” he was a mess. He shouldn’t be telling an Omega what to and not to do about an omega’s suppressants. Stupid. Ugh. “Well–I’ll show you places with good, cheap food…and if you need help shopping or carrying things, I have a car?” Was he getting too involved? Shoot him.

The ‘rundown’ wasn’t going to be fun to give, admittedly. But it had to be done.

“Oh? That’s great, I’d love to see some of your art,” good subject change for now. “Ah..yes, actually, I brought some stuff with me that also might help. The campus was required to hand it out, I think it’ll help…just a few things, and updated pepper spray,” they thought of everything, really. “I’ll show you after we eat,” sigh.

Pausing when they passed the store, he took a few steps back before following Suga to the door, chuckling a little, “Let’s go look,” he absently nudged the small of Suga’s back, but quickly pulled his hand back. Ugh. Why was he so fucking nervous? “I haven’t been here in a while–good supplies and trinkets for nice prices, they give discounts to students.” Once they stepped in, he bowed to the shop owner, an older gentleman who took a bit of a sniff, his expression hardening. He looked straight to Suga, “Are you safe, sir?” His eyes then looked to Namjoon, which made him even more nervous. The alpha showed him his student ID, which made the guy loosen up a little, “You can tell him,” he murmured to Suga, stepping past him to wait down the aisle. Once that was figured out, he smiled a bit. “A lot of places dont like it when alphas follow omegas into places..but, I do photography, mostly. Natures, animals, sometimes people. The art I do is mostly painting, nature and…whatever I feel like, mostly.” He paused, “What is your specialty?”

Suga did not like to do anything like how society taught him how to do it. He wanted to do it the normal way, like how it was for non-omega’s. He glared at Namjoon when he mentioned the suppressants. What the fuck was this alpha even talking about, what did he know about the medication anyway? Suga glared some extra at the taller man and huffed. The knowledge that the other was in possession of a car was good though, made life easier. Well, if he ever dared to ask for help. Suga did not think asking for help was a good thing, it would only confirm the bias that omega’s were helpless.

Clearing his throat at the I would love to see some of your art and not really commenting on it for now. “Oh, a new pepper spray?” That was interesting and he would enjoy that a lot. “Okay, that’s cool.” Finally, Namjoon had said something that pleased the grumpy younger man. Poor Namjoon trying so hard and yet Suga was so angry about everything- not even at Namjoon but just the world.

The store had Suga excited though, a smile forming on his lips as they stepped in (ignoring the hand on his back actively and how it spread a warmth through his body- a body that constantly betrayed him). Though his smile fell off his lips quickly again when the storeowner spoke to them and while the omega wasn’t hiding his expressions near Namjoon right now he kept a straight fave. “I am safe sir, he is helping me settle in on the campus.” Suga walked over and handed the store owner the brand-new student card. “They assigned me him, all is well, thank you for your concern.” he bowed before returning his gaze to Namjoon and with his back to the storeowner his annoyance was back on his face. “Disgusting that omega’s have to be so careful.” he muttered as he walked through the store and halted at the pencils and picked up a small pack of pencils in different hardnesses. “I like pencil and fineliners.” A pause as he didn’t want to say it too loud and considered trusting Namjoon.

He decided to not trust the weird tall one and left it at that. Picking a few fineliners that were on sale and walking over to the counter to pay for the items and after Namjoon had paid for something if he wanted something too they went outside again.
