shadow puppets || ares & namjoon

The creature was definitely an angry one; but he seemed to be listening well enough, right? Despite having something to say back to him every time. Namjoon let out a slow breath, a mix of a calming sigh and one of exasperation. It was going to be a long night.

The puppeteer found it...disturbing. How the other looked, how he'd deteriorated over only a few days. He'd been handed a small black plastic bag as he entered the 'cell' of sorts, taking oddly confident steps towards the man--creature, whatever.
It was so bright, even Namjoon had to squint. For a creature that lived in darkness and in shadows, this must be torture. Why were they torturing him? Didn't they just tend to contain them? Why hurt this one? He knew that they tested the creatures, to see how dangerous they were, but what was the point in torment? Maybe he was just too soft for this side of the foundation.
The bright blue eyes that fixed on him made his heart sink--not out of fear, but because of the pain the other must be in. Setting the black baggie of sorts down, he moved to remove his jacket, knowing it wouldn't do that much, but it might be enough to give the other some refuge and relief, even just for a few minutes...or until he got yelled at. The jacket was grey, so it wasn't as if it was going to block out all of the bright light, but that was probably good. The other traveled through shadows, so he couldn't risk letting him get away.
"I'm sorry," he whispered, crouching down near the other, closer than before, probably dangerously so...but he didn't care. Maybe he deserved to get attacked. Namjoon moved to cast the jacket over the other's head and shoulders, pulling at it a little so that it cast the other into almost full 'shadow'--or, well, the lightest amount of shadow that could be given in such a room. Fixing the hood over the man's head, he lowered to one knee rather than squatting, and reached into the baggie to see what he'd been given--first was a small water bottle, to which he unscrewed the top, offering it over to the creature after it cracked open.
"I don't know why they're doing it this way," he admitted, waiting for Ares to take the water--if he did at all. "But you've freaked out the others," he added, a hint of amusement in his voice. Honestly, while he felt unsettled by Ares, he didn't feel...fear. Which probably meant a part of him was broken. No instinct for survival there, huh? "You probably don't care, but my name is Namjoon," the agent-in-training added, honey-brown eyes looking the other's face over. "You're first 3 days is over. I think this is food," he'd set the water down if the other hadn't already taken it, pulling out a secondary baggy of just...meat. Raw meat. Looked like beef to him, but who knew. He supposed the other would know, if he knew his meat well enough.
Again, he set it down (in the baggy) near the other, so he could decide if he wanted to eat it or not. Reaching a hand up, he touched an earpiece he had in, keeping his eyes on the creature, but he chewed on his lower lip slightly as he listened.
"They'll give you different food later, but this is all for now," the puppeteer offered, setting an arm one one knee, his other touching the floor with his fingertips, in case he had to make a quick movement backwards. While he felt bad for the other, he still didn't want to be mauled...too badly, still feeling responsible, despite really only being the one hired to catch him, not the one to find him in the first place.
"You have every right to hate me, but I can help you," he offered, his voice gentle, "I think they're going to keep me working with you, so you just have to get used to me, I guess." He had no reason for telling Ares all of this...but he felt like he needed to. He owed it to the other living, breathing creature.
