As someone who once owned pet hamsters and a white rat, I can tell you a good bit on their habitat needs. Now while hamsters and gerbils will be content to live in a cage that is well-ventilated and plentiful with fun activities like tunnels and mazes, rabbits need a much bigger home than that. As a matter of fact, rabbit habitats are called "hutches" not "cages". There needs to be plenty of romping room. However, the structure of a rabbit habitat is very similar to that of their smaller cousins'. The construction of the home must be made with certain durability in mind: Rodents are notorious chewers. Most small rodent homes are made out of durable plastic or wire construction. Rabbit homes are made the same way. Hamsters chew on cardboard (think toilet paper tubes-which I always kept for them) and rabbits need a steady diet of wood due to the nature of their ever-growing incisor teeth. That's point one-very important.
Rodents are also herbivorous, meaning that they subsist on a diet of veggies and fruits. Nuts and seeds also should supplement their diets. There's a few baddies here and there that you do not want to give to your pet. Onions should not be given to hamsters and romaine lettuce is a much better bet than iceberg due to greater nutritional content. If we are talking about raw standards such as broccoli, carrots, kale, or cauliflower, you can't go wrong; but fruit should be offered gradually into their diets so as to not cause potential for diarrhea. They also need plenty of good, fresh water, that must come from a hanging cage type of bottle, not the kind of water dish given to your cat or dog.

Rodents: Hamsters do look cute and fuzzy and you can get them all sorts of neat housing with funky tubes to climb up and a wheel to race on. However, what most folks don't realize is that hamsters do bite-hard! If you're interested in a pet that is in the rodent family, consider a gerbil instead since they are much more docile and pretty easy to take care of. Be careful of a younger child gripping the little creature too tight and make sure an adult is present, as you'd be surprised how easily a rodent can pop out of a child's hands and quickly get lost in a house never to be found again. For a teen, you'll find that rats actually make phenomenal pets to care for and can become relatively tame. The one negative is that if your teen is not responsible with cage cleaning every week, rat poop and pee can take on an onerous odor that will permeate a bedroom quickly. Be warned that rodents do procreate quickly so stick to buying just one unless you want to be quickly overrun by babies. Also, do not mix rodents from different litters together as they can become highly aggressive to each other.
Dog: Don't expect a child of any age to walk, brush or clean up after a dog or cat. It's a large responsibility that the entire family needs to take ownership of. If you all aren't willing to pitch in here, then opt for an easier to care for pet. Do careful research on dog breeds by checking out if they are compatible with your family. A Labrador is certainly an easily trainable dog that is good with kids, but are you prepared to deal with the hair shed all over the house? Sure a Husky has adorable blue eyes and a goofy face, but do you have the expertise to train a dog that is considered stubborn and high energy and requires lots of exercise?

The Madagascar hissing cockroach or the hisser is one of the largest species of roaches reaching 2-3 inches at maturity. It is because of their unique hissing sound that they have become popular pets. Unlike most roaches they are wingless. They primarily each vegetation.
Emperor Scorpion
The emperor scorpion is very large reaching up to 6 inches at maturity and is native to tropical West Africa. Their venom isn't as toxic as their smaller cousins but they can deliver a painful sting. They are popular on movie sets because of their large, scary appearance coupled with their non-aggressive tendencies.
Degu
The degu is a fairly large rodent (10-12 inches including the tail) native to Chile. They are quite social so you should keep them as pairs. Because they are social they are easy to tame and quite friendly to human handlers.
Fennec Fox
Fennec foxes are about 15-18 inches in length, weigh 2-4 pounds and are native to the desert regions of North Africa. They are extremely social, very active and need a lot of attention. They can be litter box trained and make a purring sound very similar to a cat when feeling content.

The Scarlet Hermit Crab is a popular exotic pet, and this is probably due to its bright yellow body. The hairy tarantulas are sometimes kept as pets, although their bite can kill humans.
Squirrel monkeys have the largest brain of all the monkey species, they are affectionate and social so choosing one as an exotic pet can be a good choice.
The white lion is reportedly the most expensive of the exotic pets. It is not a different species, just a lion with a recessive gene. Raising such a pet while still a cub is not very demanding, but once they grow up they can reach 500 pounds.
Once you decide that what you really want is an exotic pet, you should be aware that there are different laws related to ownerships of exotic pets in every state. Before buying an exotic pet it is best to do some research.
Some exotic pets can be quite cheap, but the expenses you have to make in order to provide them with proper care may be quite high. An iguana, for example costs just $10 to $25, while you will need $600 to bring it home with you and offer it a basking spot to keep warm. You need a UVB ray strip light, the fixture to put it in, the aquarium, the enclosure and quite a few other items.
Veterinary costs are significantly higher than for conventional pets and some pets can carry diseases that affect humans. On the other hand, some human diseases are dangerous for some animals.

The city was a small grid. It was clean and easy to navigate. One day, with little to do, I took a drive by myself to the edge of town, ten minutes from anywhere in the city. The town ended abruptly. Suddenly I found myself facing a flat prairie that went on for about 1000 miles till you hit the Rocky Mountains. I drove a few miles into Wizard of Oz country and found myself gripped with terror. I was sure that in another few feet I risked falling into the endless void. I turned the car around and whizzed back to civilization. Somehow, this felt like a portent of things to come.Seeking any guidance, our attorney came in to visit. He pulled the infant's ears and said this boy was as precious and love-worthy as he appeared. Though he always liked to say that he operated from an "abundance of caution," this did not convince. He had a job to do, and wanted this adoption completed.Β
Never had I so felt like Jonah; God was trying to tell me something, but I didn't want to listen. All I said to myself was, "you can always say no."The final night before we would be forced to make a decision, my wife and I sat frozen in the hospital. Our minds raced through the "what ifs." As a therapist I often ask, "What is the worst that could happen?" as a way of helping the client gain perspective on what is most often an unreasonable fear. In this case, the answer was, all of our lives could be ruined forever, and we had no way of knowing how likely that possibility could be. The worst in this case was really bad.Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/6131800cage heaven hedgehog cage
All in all, I can't think of much to complain about concerning this game. It looks and sounds great, the controls are solid and replayability is high. Lots of fun, lots of challenges, lots of heart, and lots of charm. In fact, the only negative thing I can even think to say is the game is 15 years too late to be a part of the genre's heyday and get the attention it deserves. Rayman Origins has been out since November 2011, and so far its story has been one of critical success but commercial disappointment. I think that will change over time, though, because despite the decline of 2D gaming, Rayman Origins is in it for the long haul. Games this good don't go unnoticed forever. If you are a fan of great platforming in the vein of classic Mario Brothers or Sonic the Hedgehog titles, you owe it to yourself to check this game out now.
In 1993 Slackers Music Movies Games was founded in downtown Columbia, Missouri, on Broadway Street, right smack dab in the middle of Middle America. Not just a record store and not just a gaming store, Slackers had the novel notion that people loved music, movies and games equally, so there needed to be a store to cater to them.
Slackers staffed its stores with music, game and movie aficionados who prided themselves not only on customer service but also on product knowledge. Slackers offered the opportunity to "Try before you buy," where customers were able to play any video game and listen to any CD to see if they really liked it before they purchased it.
The idea was a success. Soon Slackers expanded to the St. Louis market (view locations) and has continued to grow and open new locations throughout the Midwest.

As far as small household pets go, guinea pigs are universally loved by everyone and are the most intriguing little creatures. They are vibrant and full of life and greatly enjoy human contact and are timid with no tendencies towards aggression. It is possible for them to live for up to seven years providing they receive the proper attention and guinea pig care is not a science but a fairly straight forward procedure.
There are various varieties and some, such as the long haired Peruvian will require more attention due to the grooming procedures but this should be part of the fun and older children in the family would be happy to take over this duty. They are extremely sociable and it is believed that they make sounds of recognition when their owner(s) enter the room so they should be treated with the love and respect they deserve. They tend to prefer living in small groups and thrive better with companionship; it has been observed that females will form a lifelong bond if kept together. You should provide the best cage you can with a good solid base (it is not a good idea to use glass owing to temperature/ventilation issues) and never place this in direct sunlight at the same time paying attention that it is not in a draughty area.

Coughing or puffing can be terribly dangerous, even deadly. In such a small animal any breathing infections are serious, and you need to get your pet to your local vet as fast as possible.
Maintaining good guinea pig health means to keep an eye open for watery eyes. Dust, mud, pollen and other particles can negatively affect the eyes, causing tears. Again, a visit to the vet or your pet store can give you liquid drops to put into the eyes. This may hopefully remedy the situation. If not, please see your vet.
Baldness will happen when your guinea pig has been cut or hurt. The hair round the wound will fall out, as a natural thing. If your guinea pig is suffering acute hair loss, doubtless due to ringworm, fleas, or other parasitic infestation, take him to the vet right away.
Good guinea pig health depends on a balanced diet and heaps of fibre. Too many wet foods might be the reason for gut rot and if this is occurring, try skyrocketing the quantity of hay, pellets, dried food, and Vitamin C, while reducing the intake of fruit and veggies.
If your pet is releasing red or pink urine, take him the vet as quickly as possible. This could be due to blood being discharged into the urinary tract, and can be lethal.

Buying provisions for your pet will not make a serious dent in your budget. Just the requisite chew toys and a good cage are all he needs, apart from visits to the vet. Like humans, a diet of fresh and balanced food and an active lifestyle ensure optimum health.
Since your pet will spend ninety-eight percent of his time in his cage, you have to get him the right kind. Notwithstanding his tiny frame, he will want to be able to move around freely. And if your guinea pig has a partner or partners, an even bigger set-up is required.
Wire floorings are a big no-no--solid plastic with a slide-out mechanism is the best choice. A large door is also important. Remember that guinea pigs got their name because they are similar to real pigs who just eat all day! It is not uncommon for guinea pigs to grow really hefty over time. He will also need good bedding, made out of either wood shavings or Timothy hay.
Your guinea pig's daily menu should consist of fresh fruits and veggies such as apples, carrots, spinach, tomatoes, celery, oranges and broccoli. Consuming lots of Timothy hay is also very important. Feeding hours should be strictly on the hour, because guinea pigs are creatures of habit. Make sure he gets a lot of water and fresh water at that.
Hopefully these tips gave you an idea of what owning a guinea pig entails. I am sure it did not discourage you, as these tips are very easy to follow. Surely once you bring your guinea pig home, you will fall in love with him and will want to make sure he grows up properly. So use these tips as a guide and don't hesitate to do more research on guinea pig care. Enjoy!

Tiger lived with me for 7 more years after college, but not all pets given as gifts have the same happy story. Owning a pet is a significant commitment, and like any major decision, it's wise to consider all the factors before proceeding. If you're considering giving a pet as a gift, here are some suggestions to help you avoid problems:
1) Make Sure The Person Wants A Pet
A pet should never be given as an "unexpected" gift to someone; they should have already made the decision that they want a pet, and most importantly, that they have the means to properly care for it. The holidays are not an ideal time to get a pet for a number of reasons: People are generally far too busy to properly introduce a new pet into their home while trying to keep up with all the demands of the season. With parties to attend, houseguests, etc., a new pet can easily be lost in the shuffle or worse, neglected.
A better choice is to give a coupon, picture or certificate that can be handed over and opened at gift time, then arrangements can be made to have the pet arrive after the holidays have passed.
