I'm still new to the Tales of Arcadia fandom on here. So @littleaipom Thank you for including me in this ask game!
1. Who are your favorite character(s)? š
I'm basic, so my three favourites are Jim, Toby and Blinky. It's a long-understood fact about me that best friendships and found families in media are my kryptonite!!
2. Who has the coolest troll design? šŖØ
Gotta be Blinky. The Trollhunters artbook says that Blinky's multi-arms and eyes were solidified pretty early in his concept development. They're a symbol of his worthiness as a mentor; many eyes for reading and knowing things, and many hands to signify his helpfulness! His semiotics are fun, and as a result the animators have said he's more difficult to animate. Love him!
3. Do you have a favorite ship pairing? What do you like about them together? š
Again, I'm basic, so it's Jlaire. Del Toro loves to bring realism to cartoons - he hates unnecessary drama, and I can see his influence Jim and Claire in Jim and Claire's love story. They were never a will they/won't they, and there was never a "just friends" period for them. They have such undeniable chemistry and unsubtle attraction to each other that Claire can't stop giving this weirdo second chances and Jim never even QUESTIONS Claire after catching her SPYING on him! They're an example of a classic love story.
4. Are there any AUs of the series you particularly enjoy? š®
Not aware of a great many of them. But I've been reading lots of long-form fanfics and I'm very sad that some of my favourites are discontinued.
5. Any headcanons or unofficial lore youāve adopted about the show? š
Headcanons? Hmmm. The Tight Jeans Hank being a wizard unofficial lore bit, for sure. Nothing else has really stuck with me yet.
6. Who deserved more screentime/character development than they got? š
Toby got lots of screentime, but not a lot of development. He proved from the start that he's more than comic relief, but he still wound up by the end of the show playing that role almost exclusively.
7. Most overrated character? š¤Ø
Listen, it's Strickler. I'm sorry but I think most of the hype around him is that he's British and charming and people think it's extra hot that he's a reformed bad guy. Of course, I enjoy him as he is in the show just fine.
8. What was the most interesting story arc/part of the series to you?š
It's tough to pinpoint the most interesting arc. The one that comes to mind right away is the era of Angor Rot - it had a variety of factors to it: Strickler's lowest moments before his reform, Jim's murderous side coming out, Barbara held as ransom without her knowledge, Claire and Toby getting used to each other. I don't think it's my all-time favourite, but it came to mind.
9. Did Jim actually need to transform with the potion to kill Gunmar? Debate. š
I think this is one of those points of deliberation that has no answer. Jim's transformation served more purpose than just defeating Gunmar. It proved the depths of his conviction, pushed his worst shames into the forefront, revealed Merlin's true colours, and gave Jim's loved ones a chance to prove their devotion to him as well. Among many more things. Did he need to become a troll to kill Gunmar? I don't know. But he probably needed to become a troll to fully accept himself.
10. What was the funniest episode or joke/bit in the show to you? š
NOT "Boom boom shake the room". And NOT any of Steve's jokes. Honestly my favourite joke is still "Rule Number 3". It became infamous - my flatmate laughed every time.
11. What is your favorite of the sequel series? (3below, wizards, rott) š½š§
It actually has to be 3Below. Wizards was good, but short. I enjoyed the Tarron siblings a lot (they're such good siblings!). And while Jim wasn't there for most it, I think he was written a liiiittle bit better in 3Below than in Wizards.
I... still have not seen Rise of the Titans.
As I said, I'm still very new to this fandom. But I'd LOVE to make some new friends... If anyone feels like it, I'm totally open to talking about TOA. Thank you again for tagging me!
