English exam review~ the exam itself went pretty good. English classes are great because the key to success is just doing the readings lol. My finals start the week after next so I really need to start reviewingπΏ
Weekend to-do
Stat 540: exam 2
Stat 512: homework 9
Stat 512: chapter 6 review questions
Social and Political Phil: final project
People aren't homes, they never will be. People are rivers, always changing, forever flowing. They will disappear with everything you put inside them.
~ Nikita Gill
one of the biggest things I can advocate for (in academia, but also just in life) is to build credibility with yourself. Itβs easy to fall into the habit of thinking of yourself as someone who does things last minute or who struggles to start tasks. people will tell you that you just need to build different habits, but I know for me at least the idea of βhabitβ is sort of abstract and dehumanizing. Credibility is more like βIβve done this before, so I know I can do it, and more importantly I trust myself to do itβ. you set an assignment goal for the day and you meet it, and then you feel stronger setting one the next day. You establish a relationship with yourself thatβs built on confidence and trust. That in turn starts to erode the barrier of insecurity and perfectionism and makes it easier to start and finish tasks. reframing the narrative as a process of building credibility makes it easier to celebrate each step and recognize how strong your relationship with yourself can become

doing a wakatime check at the end of the week is giving me whiplash because i know i didnt open vsc much for the past few days of the week but i really went crazy today just switching between assembly > java and then the class project for the semester
anyway im actually making this post in between breaks because i still have to re-integrate the authentication process for my part in the main class project !
Something that schools don't teach you but is much needed: how to have a work/life balance that works for you.
As someone who works fulltime and does classes and attempts a social life and hobbies, this gets very hard and stressful. But here are some tips I have for helping:
Learn to say no and not feel guilty. Picking up that extra shift when you had plans? Politely decline. Your friend is begging you to take ANOTHER class when your plate is full so you can have one together? Just be honest and say you can't.
Prioritize your sleep and eating. You can't function well if you don't sleep and eat enough. These are not things you can just push aside and do when you get the time. These are basic things you need to survive. These are literally basic needs. Don't throw them to the side. Your body does its best to take care of you. Make sure you take care of it too.
Have boundaries and be firm with them. If you tell your manager you can only work x, y, and z, don't let them add a or b to it. Respectfully but firmly let them know that you can't take on those things and if they have you do a or b, your work overall is going to majorly decrease in quality. Schedule time for yourself. For studying. For going out. And treat those set aside times just like you would if they were work or school times or appointments. You are the most important part of your life.
Understand that some weeks are going to be absolute hell. You're not going to have enough time. You're going to be exhausted and cry and throw things and want to quit everything. You got this babe. Take breaks and remind yourself how amazing you are and treat yourself after.
Prioritize things and adopt better habits. Wash your dishes right after using them. Get a set bedtime. Get easy breakfast things. Take a walk.
Your friends will understand if you just need time alone. I promise. They love you and don't hate you because you're overwhelmed. I PROMISE. And if they don't, maybe they aren't really your friends.
Not everyone is a friend. Some people are acquaintances. Some people are a 5 minute smoke break at work for your sanity. Some people are drinking buddies. Some people are library study date friends. And that's ok! Not everyone has to be your bestie. And trying to put that much energy into that many people will drain you.

so, for this semester, we have a class project of building a website for our institution's room reservation system. i will 100% document my journey on this here since we are formally starting the sprint #1 this week. special tag will probably be #undeuxhuit because im lazy (its literally the course code) and im trying to put the french duolingo streak in use. tech stack is quite fun with nextjs (god sent)
actually since im taking java again i will have two projects to deal with this semester but for java im actually preparing for it already; while on my intro to soft. engr. class we are genuinely Working on it since two weeks ago
