my fave lawyer/law student inside joke is how literally none of us are good at math. one time a prof asked us to divide 2 million by 5 and I said 20,000 and not one person corrected me. the prof was just like ok sure and wrote it down
Ok I’m not kidding…….. this kid thought that 20% of $10 was 50 cents……… he was so confident about it I just….. y’all.
It gets worse. Yesterday I ordered 6 sauce packets so that “[my friend] can have 2, I can have 2, and I’ll have 4 left over”
And now I get bar questions with math in them and I come 👌🏼this close to guessing and moving on
A few weeks ago I watched a sentencing hearing drag on for half an hour bc the judge tried to sentence the defendent to 13 nights in jail across 3 weekends… Which was 9 nights in jail. Then they moved up to 4. Then the DA and the defense approached the bench and they whispered about it for like ten minutes. Then the court admin intervened and the official disposition was “12 nights across 4 weekends, because Madame Clerk has informed me my original disposition was mathematically impossible.”
OH MY GOD
My current office frequently has attorneys double-checking math on budget spreadsheets and I’m just like GUYS. Of ALL the departments who could double-check this… why ask THE LAWYERS???
I had to calculate damages on my contracts final and I really, truly believed that a ton is 100 pounds. My current theory is that every section has about 1 math braincell shared amongst the 70 or whatever of us, and the person who has it does NOT want to share.
i’m screaming @legally-tired getting bar questions w/math in them and wanting to skip bc SAME like this will be me trying to figure out what 10% of 10K is
Go to your classes, pay attention, get started early on assignments/studying, drink lots of water, don’t forget to rest and try your hardest. I believe in you and you got this bby girl 💖💖

professor: what do you mean your textbook didn't "spark joy"
first day of college in media: “Please open up your textbooks to chapter three because I expect you to have already read the first two chapters in preparation for starting this class”
first day of college in reality: “We’re going to spend the next hour slowly and thoroughly going over every page of the syllabus because I strongly suspect at least half of you assholes don’t actually know how to read”

A reminder for the girls with big plans
To all the girls with big dreams, who have been told that they are ‘too preoccupied with success’, or that they are ‘too selfish’ or ‘too ambitious’ - do not listen to the people who speak those words. If you love something that much, and will pursue it to the ends of the earth, do not give it up for anyone. Hold it close to your heart and understand that you are not obligated to dim your sparkle for anybody. In your life, there will always be people who tell you that you are too much or too little. They will say a woman is too assertive, or too reserved. They will say she feels too little or too much, that ambition is selfish. They may even be hurt or offended that you do not think the same. Yet at the end of the day, know in your heart that you are the only one who will ever know whether you are truly enough and that is what’s important. Go out there and smash the glass ceiling to pieces.
On Starting Law School & Elle Woods
In Legally Blonde, Elle says the famous words, “what, like it’s hard?”
It’s become some sort of a mantra for female students applying to and starting law school. As kickass as this moment was in the movie, however, there’s something very important to note here.
She says these words in reference to getting into law school, not actually attending law school, which, as you recall, she immediately struggles with.
Getting into law school is deceptively simple. There are no prerequisites. Elle’s undergrad had nothing to do with law, or anything even in the humanities. Her focus was in fashion.
All it takes to get into a law school is to have gone through undergrad and to have taken the LSAT. There is no “passing” score on the LSAT, and you will be able to find a law school that accepts you somewhere in the USA if you have taken it at all. It won’t be a good law school, but it will be a law school.
Getting into a good law school, like Harvard, requires a good GPA and LSAT score. If you have a 3.9 GPA and 175+ LSAT, you’re almost guaranteed to get into Harvard Law.
I will not downplay what an impressive feat this is, but you still need to realize that both a high undergrad GPA and a high LSAT score are things that to some, come easily. We all know those kids in college who got straight A’s without trying, and kids who did well on standardized tests (like the SAT) without really trying.
Elle had a 4.0 GPA (so yes, she’s smart), and yes she struggled with increasing her LSAT practice score but she still got a 179 (a score I actually never heard of in real life) on the first try. Meaning, she’s a great test taker.
This has very little to do with how one feels while in law school.
At most law schools, you do not have any exams until the finals. Instead you are expected to only keep taking in information, without being tested on them in any formal manner, and you need to do this in ridiculous volume and speed. You need to be reading cases for 4, 5 classes that all meet nearly everyday, and retaining all this information. It’s not easy. It’s not designed to be easy.
The film made this as clear as it could. Elle’s struggles with getting into Harvard were not even half the battle. It was a cute, fun montage of her studying for the LSAT and putting together a video essay. Once law school starts, she initially crashes and burns, in more ways than one. And then she realizes she really needs to get her shit together.
It can be very discouraging for these hopeful Elle Woodses to start law school and then realize how difficult it is in comparison to everything they’ve done before. But it’s important to remember that their heroine, Elle Woods, struggled, too. You can do it. You can get through it. Just remember:
my roommate’s on jstor and she just whispered “oh fuck yeah” so that’s the mood

“Write down what you need to get done today, put an estimated duration time next to each task, open your exercise book or create a document, open up a timer, set yourself a deadline and start working. If you need a break, do a plank for the length of a song or watch a 4 minute compilation of motivating scenes from Legally Blonde or Gilmore Girls or Hidden Figures. Once the four minutes is up, get back to work. Before you go to bed, make sure everything that’s due tomorrow is done.”

the autumn light this morning was absolutely ethereal; this is such a lovely time of year because the way the sunlight shifts somehow makes my mind feel at peace ✨🍂
don’t compare yourself to them. they’re not better than you, nor you them. you are both at different points in your journey and you’re doing just fine.
✨I’m so bad at keeping up with posts… what else is new? 🤷🏻♀️🙃✨

It’s the last day of the month! ✨
it’s hard being a student.
It’s hard being a student when emotionally, your life outside of the classroom seems like it’s being torn to bits.
It’s hard being a student when you feel like you’re the most lonely person on the planet and like no one will ever understand you or even love you enough to tolerate all of your baggage.
It’s hard being a student when you cry a lot of the time. Because the tears get in the way of your vision and the heartache gets in the way of your focus, and no one should ever have to cry and study for a midterm or write a research paper all at the same time.
It’s hard being a student when your family doesn’t understand. Anything. At all.
It’s hard being a student when you’re also a person, a real life breathing human being who needs things like food and water and social interaction and maybe a little bit of love to survive healthily.
It’s hard being a student when you want other things so bad.
It’s hard being a student when it all gets too much and too overwhelming to handle and all of the unfinished check boxes of you planner won’t stop reminding you that you have to get this done or else you’ll absolutely fail and die.
It’s hard being a student when you’re just so tired. of everything.
It’s hard being a student. I know it is. Because I feel it. All the time.
But you’ve come this far. And I hope you can learn to be a little more gentle on yourself. And I hope you remember one day your hard work might just pay off for a life you’ve deserved. One day the pain will go away.
But I need you to keep going. I need you to stay in this world and fight today.
Because being a student is hard. But the pain of giving up a whole lot of hope and dreams is harder.
