To my surprise, the Advendskalender I bought this year has quotes on the inside, so apart from a chocolate Iāll have a German advent challenge.
First Iāll try to translate without dictionaries or online translators (I still have moments where I do know all the words and the sentence still doesnāt make any sense) and then Iāll double check it.
Todayās quote:
āDer beste Weg, sich selbst eine Freude zu machen, ist zu versuchen, einem anderen eine Freude zu bereitenā ā Mark Twain
Translation:
āThe best way to cheer yourself up is to cheer somebody else upā ā Mark Twain
I mixed up āFreudeā and āFreundeā and I didnāt remember what ābereitenā meant, so the whole thing didnāt make much sense.
And I learned the expression āeine Freude machenā :)
Me trying to resist the urge to start learning yet another language
I have mixed feelings when my brain switches to Denglisch. I mean, it's nice that the language is finally coming naturally at random moments, but "Tuestag", seriously???
(Well, I guess my brain is doing what it can to switch contexts between 3 languages on a daily basis without going completely kaputt)

Dresden, Germany.
Ah, ich wurde gern noch einmal nach Dresden fahren. Die Stadt ist soooo schƶn!
diseases in english are like āoh you have conjungitivitistittis. :)ā
german meanwhile is likeĀ āyou have hurty tummy syndrome :////ā
going to a doctor in english: myĀ esophagus seems to be inflamed and my trachea is itchy
going to a doctor in german: uwu dokteur, my eat-tube and breathe-tube are hurty :[[
dokteur: ahhh, yes, that is the eat-tube-and-breathe-tube-itchy-hurty-syndrome, here have some ibuprofen
this is factually incorrect slander, the german names of those body parts are in fact food tube and air tube
Here are some of my unusual ways of studying German! I hope this helps some of you outāØ

Adjectives to Describe People in German
lustig funny langweiling boring stark strong freundlich kind, friendly ruhig calm ernst serious besorgt anxious fleiĆig diligent humorvoll humorousĀ dynamisch energetic hƶflich polite intelligent intelligent aktiv active ehrgeizig ambitious ehrlich honestĀ schüchtern shy geduldig silly gut aussehend cool mutig brave introvertiert introvert zuverlƤssig reliable extrovertiert extrovert kreativ creative faul lazy begeistert enthusiastic groĆzügig generousĀ ungezogen naughty mitfühlend sympathetic rücksichtsvoll thoughtfull dumm stupid agressiv agressive künstlerisch artistic schlecht gelaunt bad-tempered vorsichtig careful gelassen easygoing emotional emotional unentschlossen indecisive naiv naive launisch moody sozial social verstƤndnisvoll understanding nett nice
These two are my morning companions since last week. Iām 75% through my A2 course, but I donāt feel I have a strong A2 German yet, so I decided to buy this textbook and review A level grammar. Right now Iām reviewing the few gender rules that exists (will I ever get them right?) and practicing adjective declension, because thatās what Iām learning in class.
Listening to Der Hobbit, my 2nd fav book. I donāt even understand 25% of it, but if this book doesnāt motivate me to listen to things in German, nothing will.
