It occurred to me recently, that in 2x05, when Lestat begs Armand to tell Louis he loves him (forever devastated about that btw) it's not possible that either Louis or Daniel would have know that happened, and since we as the audience are, in that moment, given more information than the characters have, it must mean that that scene HAS to be more than just a portrayal their combined recollection. Right??? I always thought it was their memories reforming as they listened to the recording, but us getting to hear Lestat say that (and rip our hearts to shreds!) to me makes it seems like it's an actual depiction for what happened from an 3rd person omniscient POV. I guess it could also be a combo of Louis, Daniel AND Armand's memories, even though Armand isn't in the room? Either way it means for sure that Louis still has no idea of Lestat's desperation to reassure him he was/is loved, which I'd already assumed, BUT STILL. Owie
My initial interpretation of that scene is that Daniel was remembering what he overheard Lestat projecting to Armand. That would account for Daniel seemingly recognizing Lestatâs voice in 1x06 when Louis played Come To Me.
Sam and Assad seem to think the same, but Rolin wouldnât outright clarify to them what was happening with the call, which I talked about here.
The more I think about it, I tend to lean more towards Lestatâs side of the conversation maybe being something just for the audience, because thereâs a part of me that believes had Louis heard the âI love youâ back then, he wouldâve went back to Lestat a lot sooner. After all, that was his first question to Lestat during the reunion.
âWhy didnât you say it was me who saved you not him?â
Thereâs also the fact the memory fucking didnât start until after San Francisco, and Louis wouldâve known the truth about Paris (or a big part of it) when the call happened. The first interview was petty insults and pure spite and was a deliberate ploy to get Lestat to come find him. It was a call for help. The second interview was another call for help, but the framing of Lestat was something else (something far more monstrous) compared to the first interview and placed all the blame on Lestat, and thatâs because Armand had warped the memories by that point.
The full truth about Paris will unravel everything.
And I do think we might see the call from Lestatâs POV.
Lestat is getting more and more desperate. All he knows is that Louis has injured himself. He sounds weak and ill and just tired, but the moment Armand says Louis is hurt, you can hear the urgency in his voice.
He goes from âTell him, Armand! Tell him!â in such a pleading and gut-wrenching voice and then back to âLouis?â so softly and tenderly. Thatâs when Armand starts breaking off the connection, Louis slightly chokes, and Lestat starts hysterically screaming for Louis, because he likely believed Louis died at that moment.
I think about this a lot. It borderline consumes me, because I have no doubt Lestat lost his entire will at that moment and the idea of getting to see this scene expanded to show the entire context? The idea of Armand possibly going to visit Lestat like he does in the books to âconfirmâ Louisâ death and twist the knife even further by showing Lestat the image of Louis severely burned and screaming in agony?
Just smash my heart with a hammer, because this is the face Lestat makes immediately after Louis confirmed to him that he tried to hurt himself:
Seeing this in itsâ entirety while Lestat doesnât know whatâs happening with Louis and only knows heâs hurt and with Armand (who did what he did to Nicki) and Lestat canât get to Louis?
Itâs going to destroy us.
