Why the hell are you looking at me like that?
Why does everyone think I'm staring at them? I'm just tryna look at the damn vending machine, man. Not that I can even buy anything from it yet, what with that stupid ass rule...
Anyway, aren't you a little young to be hanging around some drunkards?
No. No no no. I will never admit defeat. It takes a big person to admit defeat, but a bigger person to fight through it— mark my words.
Is that you declaring that you'll make it to the end? Or are you gonna let me down?
Why are there rules about when we can eat?!
Also known as Stuart 'Peter Pan' Sutton. I’m surprised you didn’t walk with a mini-fridge.
I thought about it, man... Even tried to hide some snacks under my jumper but one of those organisers fucking heard the crisp packet that I taped to my chest rustle.
You’re at a pub, not a fucking diner. Focus on which shot you’re taking next. Unless you’re staying sober tonight?
Hey, snacks should always be enjoyed whenever and wherever you feel like it. And do I look like I'm staying sober? I'm in it to win it, girl.

Chatting Bullshit ♦ Stupip
Piper quickly made her way up the stairs which lead to Stuart’s apartment door, and, per usual, she found the door unlocked. With a twist of the handle, Piper made her way in and shut the thick wooden door behind her. Much to her surprise, Stu’s apartment was actually fairly neat and organized… And the vanilla scented candles she had gotten him were lit, making the flat smell a little less like a taco and a little more like an ice cream cone. It seemed to Piper as if he were actually making an effort for once, and that, too, made her want to try a little harder.
Piper made her way into the small kitchen, setting down the bags on the counter top. “Stu!” she called, not exactly sure where he had run off to, “I know I said I wasn’t going to get you a taco… But, I did, and I know I’ll probably regret that decision in a little bit.” Piper pulled the pint of ice cream out of the plastic shopping bag, making sure to place it in the freezer before it completely melted into a big chocolate puddle. Closing the freezer, Piper returned to the bag and pulled out the tray of brownies. Why did one man need so much food? And why did it always seem as if he never gained any wait? He ate like a pig and considered getting up to get more food to be all the exercise he needed. It truly puzzled Piper.
Piper stuffed the plastic bag under his sink, along with the rest of the plastic bags that no one would probably ever use, yet sat down there anyway. One final bag sat on the counter after that — a paper one this time. Inside, the prized taco. Piper pulled it out, threw the bag in the trash, and went to grab a plate from the cupboard. A single, clean plate sat on the shelf, and Piper couldn’t exactly say she was surprised. She brought the plate back to where she had been standing previously, and placed the wrapped taco on the plate.
After that, her work was done. She left the taco on the counter, and walked into the equally small, conjoined living room. Plopping down on the couch, Piper grabbed the TV remote and turned on the television, awaiting Stuart to make an appearance.
A breeze came in from an open window that hit Stuart’s bare chest like a ton of bricks, the cold water on his body adding to the discomfort. He left the door unlocked like he usually did as Piper would know where to put everything, and quickly skipped back into his bedroom to search for some clean clothes. As the only thing he could find that didn’t require a wash was his new Christmas jumper, he chucked the towel to the side and put the festive sweater on before grabbing a pair of black jeans from the floor. Piper’s voice trailed in from the lounge as he hopped around with denim bunched up around his ankles, struggling a little to pull up the somewhat tight trousers.
‘Yeah, one sec!’ he shouted, pulling up the gold zipper with a satisfied sigh. Maybe he had been eating too many tacos. It wasn’t a thought he liked to dwell on. He would rather blame it on the fact that he’d just had a shower and hadn’t had a chance to dry his legs off completely. Stuart could almost hear the ‘I told you so’ that would slip out of Piper’s mouth if he ever mentioned his suspicions, and then she’d really start monitoring his taco intake.
Shutting the bedroom door behind him, Stuart enjoyed the sensation of his toes sinking into the soft carpet as he walked over to the sofa. His eyes immediately spotted the taco treat resting on the counter, causing his face to instantly light up. He was fairly easy to please and this was all he really needed for it to feel like Christmas. The way to his heart had always been through food.
‘You are an absolute babe,’ he murmured, cupping Piper’s face in his warm hands before affectionately pulling at her cheeks. Grinning, Stuart softly placed a kiss on her forehead before releasing her face and walking towards his one true love – the taco. The smell wafted through its wrapping and he jokingly rolled his eyes into the back of his head. ‘Ah, smells like hope,’ he whispered, grabbing the plate before throwing himself onto the sofa. He lifted Piper’s legs up smoothly and then draped them over his own, hovering his plate above her knees as he smiled at her. ‘So, talk to me. How's life? You going to any of the Christmas events poppin’ up?’
If I say I’m okay, then it’s true. It’s too early in the game for me to puss out on this. Now pass me a drink.
Uh oh, is someone having second thoughts? It's okay if you've already been beaten by the crawl, man. Takes a big person to admit defeat.
1 tequila, 2 tequila, 3 tequila, floor ♦ Stuart & Lillian
After the hell that had been her Thanksgiving Break, Lillian almost squealed with excitement at the thought of the Christmas Pub Crawl. In fact, she had no idea that she even needed it until the paper printed the announcement. The paper. Lillian almost wanted to sneer at that thought because it brought her right back around to who her partner was in this whole endeavor: Adam Vinson. Of course it was. Lillian was almost one-hundred percent sure that he had done it just for his own amusement. He loved to make her squirm even though Lillian tried not to collapse under the pressure. Then, after five minutes together, he had disappeared, leaving Lillian at that bar with her beanie on her head, skirt splayed across her thighs, and socks rolled up to her knees: looking like hell. This had been her third drink officially making Jack Daniels her knew best friend.
"My dinner is going on your credit card, pal," she replied, eyes twinkling underneath the fluorescent lights. This cheeky, blond-haired man had been the shining star of the night so far. Lillian couldn’t remember the last time a man actually made her smile.
Ten tequila shots would be easy. Throughout college, Lillian had built up a strong tolerance to alcohol. She needed it. College had been the time where she had gone through most of her remissions; where she saw the inside of a hospital room more than the inside of a lecture hall. But she hadn’t wanted to get behind, leaving Lillian to drown in more work than she thought possible. Hence the alcohol. Hence Jack Daniels in specifics. She would drink and drink, and other than becoming a bit warmer than normal, she never truly got drunk. But isn’t that what everyone said?
"Bring it on, Peter," she said, beaming at the bartender, pulling her ten shots closer and closer to her. After counting ten, Lillian turned her gaze back upon the James Dean fellow sitting beside her. There was a challenge brewing in his eyes, the air electrifying between the pair. Lillian’s fingers rested upon two shot glasses, itching to get it started. "On the count of three. One…— T H R E E !"
One shot back, two, then three… Lillian kept her eyes closed, tossing back each and every shot as if it were water. It tasted awful, her face showing it quite perfectly, but she had learned that throwing it at the back of her throat and nearly choking on it was a much more effective trick to do than to actually drink it. — - Eight, nine, then… “DONE!” Lillian exclaimed, slamming the last glass down as she turned to look at the man who was just finishing his last shot.
"You owe me a lasagna dinner," she claimed confidently, poking at his chest. Lillian couldn’t remember the last time she had a lasagna dinner. "You can call me Lily."
Stuart’s body tensed as he waited for his opponent to confirm she had understood the rules, but the next thing he knew she was counting down. He did the same in his head as he stared intently at the shot glasses in front of him, annoyed at the customers around him that kept bumping into his back. He needed all of the arm space he could get to increase his shot drinking speed, and so in an attempt to create more room he stuck his bum out into the crowd. No one was going to ruin his chances for victory.
One… Two- Wait, what?
It took a second for his brain to comprehend what was going on, and in the time it took for him to stare at her - wide-eyed and somewhat impressed that she had the guts to try and cheat him out of a taco – she had already downed at least two shots. Feeling more determined than ever to crush her, he knocked back two shots at the same time, instantly regretting it as the drink burnt his throat. Suppressing the urge to gag, Stuart grabbed another two shots and chucked them towards the back of his throat. His somewhat accurate aim was surprising considering his technique now consisted of frantically throwing the liquid in the general direction of his mouth. The cute girl was to blame, she was great competition, and as he continued taking shot after shot he had to admit that maybe he had met his match. Stuart grimaced and picked up the last shot glass, the liquid just about touching the back of his throat when she announced she had won.
‘F…uck,’ he gurgled, sticking his tongue out in disgust as he finally managed to swallow the remains of the sickening drink. Shaking his head, Stuart couldn’t help but laugh as she celebrated. It was kind of adorable, but it wasn’t enough to distract him from remembering her underhand tactics. ‘Wow, so you have to cheat to beat me, is that how it is?’ he joked, the smile on his face now a permanent fixture. He knew that even if he hadn’t been tricked she would have still been incredibly difficult to beat. Now he felt a little stupid for assuming someone so small could be beaten so easily, she had truly proved herself to be a very worthy opponent. ‘Lily, it’s a pleasure. Name’s Stuart.’ He bowed without hesitation and reached down to kiss her hand before straightening his body out. ‘You’re pretty damn incredible, anyone ever told you that?’ he asked, leaning his back against the bar so that he could get a better view of the room, and of her.
1 tequila, 2 tequila, 3 tequila, floor ♦ Stuart & Lillian
‘I could go for a big plate of lasagna. I’ll be enjoying quite the dinner tonight.’
Having already consumed a few beers, the grin that slid onto Stuart’s face appeared effortlessly. They hadn’t been on the pub crawl for long but he had already lost track of his group, including Piper, who still hadn’t even shown her face at the event. Not knowing where she was, but knowing either she or Lennon would turn up sooner or later, he had set out in search of fun and had found himself by the bar – challenging a girl to a drink off. He kept telling himself that he wasn’t really doing anything wrong, Piper knew he could be a bit of a flirt. He was extremely bored and it was all just a little healthy competition, wasn’t that what they were all here for? Although even Stuart had to admit that the girl beside him was pretty damn cute.
‘Shame you’ll be buying it for yourself, then’ he replied, laughing as he waved the bartender over. ‘Twenty tequila shots please, my man.’
The bartender busied himself behind the bar, preparing their drinks before quickly bringing them over to their stretch of the bar. Despite his earlier jokes he really had no problem buying the girl a drink, and so after he had pulled out his wallet and tipped the bartender, he moved each shot glass from the tray and placed ten out in front of each of them.
‘You might wanna skip using the salt and lemon if you don’t wanna slow yourself down, just a friendly tip. Unless the taste’ll be too much for you to handle…’ Stuart’s eyes twinkled as he challenged her, his fingers resting on two of the shot glasses in preparation for their race. He had always been a very competitive person, and so he took these things incredibly seriously. Playfully nudging her side with his elbow, he smiled so much that the skin beside his eyes crinkled slightly. ‘Right, you know the rules. Fastest to finish all ten shots wins, you ready?’

Chatting Bullshit ♦ Stupip
“Fuck,” Piper muttered under her breath as she waited in line at Tacos Nitos, one of the many taco trucks that she knew Stuart liked to spend his time at in Clovers. After working a five hour shift at Clovers Cafe, she simply didn’t have the patience to stand behind a woman who kept pronouncing quesadilla as “qehsahdillah”. As a headache was starting to form in her head, the line finally moved up, allowing Piper to become face to face with the man who stood in the truck.
“What would you like today?” He asked, resting his arms on his side of the opening. “Could I just get one taco, please?” Piper asked, looking up at him. As the man working the truck quickly took her order, Piper moved out of the way and stood off to the side. In her hand she held a plastic grocery band which contained a tray of brownies and a pint of ice cream, which Stuart had also asked her to pick up the day earlier. Unfortunately, Piper didn’t own a car, which meant she had to carry everything everywhere.
As the cold of the night started to set in and the sky began to turn a darker shade of blue, Piper bounced from one foot to another, her impatience growing. Finally, the man called out her order and she quickly grabbed it, paid, and thanked him. It was a short walk from Tacos Nitos to Stuart’s apartment, and for once that day, Piper felt relieved.
After eleven minutes of power walking, she had finally arrived to his building. Rushing up to the doorbell, Piper quickly scanned the selection of name’s until she found the one that printed his name. “Stuart,” she called into the speaker, “Can you buzz me in? It’s getting cold and I’m pretty sure the ice cream is melting — Oh yeah, I got rocky road – but for fuck’s sake, let me in already.”
Stuart looked around the room and sighed as he surveyed the damage. Pizza boxes, dirty clothes, several posters showing missing pets that he had personally found and returned to their owners. Keeping them made him feel like a good person. Almost like Jesus but specifically for animals. Knowing it wouldn’t be long before Piper arrived he plugged in his iPod and attempted to clean while dancing around the room. Needless to say his technique wasn’t very effective, but he did remember to light the candles she kept going on about so the room would smell a little less of cheese and meat. Although he truly didn’t understand how anyone could find such a comforting aroma disturbing.
Remembering the last time that he and Piper had met up was proving difficult. Both of them had been so busy recently, and he honestly couldn’t say that he had even tried to arrange anything. Blaming his lack of organisational prowess on several family gatherings seemed like a safer bet than telling his girlfriend of two years that he just didn’t want to deal with the drama that seemed to follow their relationship. With the holiday for sharing love and cheer just around the corner, it seemed like the perfect time for them to give sorting out their relationship a real shot instead of continuing to just ignore all of the issues. Stuart really did believe that there was still something there between them that was extremely special, they just needed a little work.
As he wandered around the room collecting rubbish and shoving it into a bin bag, his left foot stood directly onto an old pizza box. It wouldn’t have been a problem had the box not been wide open, and as he sighed and lifted his foot to examine the damage, crusty cheese and a slice of pepperoni slid over his toes, right back into the brown box on the floor.
‘Fucking hell,’ he mumbled to himself, dumping the bin bag on the floor so that he could hop over to the bathroom and have a quick shower.
When he emerged, his hair still wet and dripping down onto the towel wrapped around his waist, the buzzer was ringing and Piper’s voice filled the room. A smile spread across his face as he pressed the button to let her in. Mostly because he was excited to shove his face full of so much food it seeped back out of his ears, but also because he had really missed that voice.
"I’ve been through enough to learn being scared does nothing for me. First thing though: what’s the prize?"
Hm, good question... Everyone loves free food. How about loser buys the winner their favourite? So basically you'll be buying me a taco when I crush you. Sound fair?
"This ‘tiny body,' as you so kindly put it, has managed to possess a lot of strength. Of course, I can tell you're afraid — - after all, it's why you haven't bought me a drink, yet, isn't it?”
Oh please, you don't know about my strength yo. And don't go making assumptions about me. I didn't buy you a drink because I'm cheap, let's not sugar coat it.
If you want one you have to earn it. First to finish ten shots gets a drink and a prize. You in? Or are you scurred?
"Please," Lillian scoffed, unable to help but roll her eyes. "You highly underestimate my ability to hold my liquor. Doubles are taking it easy."
Well aren't you confident. See, I'm thinking that tiny body of yours can't do what you think it can. Maybe you're just bluffing, y'know. Tryna play the game.
"Lady Luck definitely has it out for me… Can I get another Jack and Sprite please? — - And make it a double."
A double? Ooh, keep drinking like that and your chances of making it through this war are over.
