Day 2: Different type/role reversal

So I’ve thought of this one a lot. I really liked the suggestion of making them not switching to their types but other ones, so I tried to pick types and personalities that were the opposite of theirs, but they still kept some key traits.

I made Kabu’s type Steel because I thought the sturdiness of the type was a good opposite for the ever-burning fire type, thought it’s strength made sense for an athletic character, and that steel was weak to fire, solidifying the opposite. His personality is kind of similar to Volkner. He’s an older trainer that’s kind of jaded with the whole league/sports system. He still has a passion for battling, he just never gets to fully express that due to his position as a canonical roadblock in the Galar league. When he does have a good battle, he leans more into his OG personality and actually has a fun time. He’s a fitness coach and his partner is Perrserker.

For Larry, I focused more on the personality since normal type isn’t super effective to anything, so I chose fairy type because it seemed like the most non-normal type to me and the contrast between the sickenly sweet fairy type compared to Larry’s bland cracker personality was funny to me. His personality is kind of inspired by Jacinthe from Legends Z-A or Flowery from Deltarune Chapter 5, fun, kind of enigmatic, and the biggest ragebaiter of our generation. Though, this is also a facade, similarly to his original counterpart, because feels he needs to fit in with the kooky cast of the league he’s in so bad that he plays up everything he does. Similarly to my steel Kabu, when Larry is alone and comfortable, he’s a lot more mellowed out. He still works both gym and elite four and still uses flying types there to represent his calmer personality underneath. He probably does HR instead of the accounting work OG Larry probably does and his partner is Dachsbun.

I think their relationship started off much rockier compared to the OG pairing cause Larry keeps trying to act all nice and flashy and Kabu can see right through that bs and is not having it. I think Kabu would get a bit frustrated and confront Larry about it and he would probably confess all of this to Kabu because, even though they aren’t on too good terms, Larry feels that Kabu is the only who would actually listen to him. Kabu then sort of sympathizes with him on that part and they then take the time to get to know each other and the relationship goes up from there.

Gosh I was so tired today, it was hard to think of something to draw haha. Sooooo just some doodles.

I imagine Kabu being almost the same except he's more focused on fitness than being better in Pokemon battles ? (If that makes any sense, idk Normal type is hard to do) And Larry is a guy that's always cold (kinda like Grusha) except he uses fire types to stay warm and comfortable ? Sooo Kabu's warming Larry up with tight hugs hehe. Yeah, told you I was tired, my brain isn't braining haha !

Somebody made a small article explaining the basics of atomic theory but it's written in Anglish. Anglish is basically a made-up version of English where they remove any elements (words, prefixes, etc) that were originally borrowed from romance languages like french and latin, as well as greek and other foreign loanwords, keeping only those of germanic origin.

What happens is an english which is for the most part intelligible, but since a lot everyday english, and especially the scientific vocabulary, has has heavy latin and greek influence, they have to make up new words from the existing germanic-english vocabulary. For me it kind of reads super viking-ey.

Anyway when you read this article on atomic theory, in Anglish called Uncleftish Beholding, you get this text which kind of reads like a fantasy novel. Like in my mind it feels like it recontextualizes advanced scientific concepts to explain it to a viking audience from ancient times.

Even though you're familiar with the scientific ideas, because it bypasses the normal language we use for these concepts, you get a chance to examine these ideas as if you were a visitor from another civilization - and guess what, it does feel like it's about magic. It has a mythical quality to it, like it feels like a book about magic written during viking times. For me this has the same vibe as reading deep magic lore from a Robert Jordan book.
