small statement maybe more for myself but probably extends to others. artists dont like when you compare their fanart or oc art to other characters, its disheartening. you have every right to do that out of artist-eye/ear-shot but artists read their tags, their replies etc and its baffling some people dont realize that! they see everything you reply or tag! i know most people dont think about it when they do it but its not something an artist who worked very hard on an original work of a character wants to hear, imo!!

Over the years I've gotten a bit more inured to it because... people just do that a lot, but it is kind of a thoughtless thing to do.
Part of me understands the impulse and knows it's not malicious and that it's just a consequence of human brains being pattern recognizing machines: if something makes a familiar neuron fire we feel compelled to shout out the connection we just made. And that is so understandable and normal!
But when you're looking at and commenting upon someone's art in a space where you know they can hear you (so, the notes on their tumblr post) it is good form to engage with the art in front of you on its own merits, rather than attempting to turn it into content for your fandoms.
If the only way you can engage with it is by blurting out something else it reminds you of, even though you feel like you're just being excited and participatory, what you're telling the artist is that the art they made is not interesting enough for you to engage with it as it is and to think about what's in front of you; that it is only interesting to you insofar as it reminds you of something else you already like.
It tends to just feel like people refusing to turn off their Fandom Brains to engage with new/original art on its own terms, and instead they need to make it into fandom-adjacent content in order for them to be interested enough to reblog or talk about it.

One of the biggest DIY HRT hubs in the UK appears to have permanently shut down just days after being targeted by right-wing outlets.
HRT Cafe, a grassroots database of tutorials, resources, and information on hormone replacement therapy (HRT), closed its doors earlier this week.
The website, which was maintained by a small, anonymous group of developers, was considered one of the biggest resources for ‘DIY’ HRT in the UK.
It is not illegal to possess non-controlled hormones for personal use without a prescription in the UK.
Developers shuttered the site unexpectedly earlier this week. No official statement has been published, only that its developers were no longer accepting donations.
Its closure came just days after a number of right-wing news outlets, including The Daily Signal, published articles on ‘DIY’ vendors citing HRT Cafe and other resource sites.
