harry, for all his planning and studying and preparing, couldn’t ever see himself thriving anywhere. succeeding, maybe, doing well enough, perhaps, and when he was feeling particularly optimistic, he imagined he might even someday be satisfied, but finding somewhere he truly thrived had never been something he found realistic enough to include in his future plans.

somehow, though, when donna said it, he had no doubt it would come true for her.

[text: Sam Donna’s Husband] Hello, Sam! I’m at a conference in the States, and I found some very neat postcards I’d like to send you. They’re blue, with those pink flamingos on them. I didn’t know flamingo lawn decorations were a real thing, I thought they were just in films, but here they are! I might have to find one and bring it to the island on my next visit, I think it would look good at the hotel. They’re surprisingly cute. If I had a lawn in London, I’d be tempted to get one myself! HB

Sam listened. “Does it always work in films?” He asked. Sam smiled and then listened to what he said. “I know what you mean. I have been places for my work but not really for a vacation….except this time.”

Shamus was working at the hospital Donna was in, he was a consultant on her case too. Donna’s daughter Sofie had given them a lengthy list of names that were allowed to know anything about Donna. So when he see’s a man standing outside of Donna’s room. He approaches and looks over his file of potential people this could be. 

“Hello there, I’m Doctor Connerie, Mrs. Charmichal is resting at the moment, she just had a lot of intensive tests done..It would be best not to wake her for the moment.”

Shamus says gently and then offers the list to the other. 

“But if you name is on this list, I can tell you anything you may wish to know about her condition?”

it caught him off guard for a moment, hearing donna referred to as MRS. CARMICHAEL, and his recovery was stilted and awkward. with everything going on, it hit him that he probably shouldn’t have been so easily shocked, but there he was, staring at the doctor, eyes wide and mouth half-open.

“I, ah. yes, sorry, yes, I’m here for donna. hello, dr. connerie, I’m harry bright.“

he took the list and looked over it quickly, then nodded and pointed to his name. “henry charles, yes, that’s the one.” he handed the list back.

“Look in the mirror harry, you are a true Casanova, you just have to find the right person who brings that out in you!”

Bill in turn clasps an arm around the back of Harry and gives the man a few manly squeezes and soft shakes. 

“You are Harry HEADBANGER! I never had a badass name like that?! And when you arn’t Harry Headbanger, you are Harry Bright, and bright you are my friend.”

Bill pats Harry’s shoulder. 

“You are my best friend Harry, I wish you could see yourself how I see you.”

“I WAS harry headbanger, bill. I’m afraid that ship sailed a long time ago. I haven’t owned a leather jacket since I turned 28, and that was twenty years ago.“ 

he pulled back from bill to straighten his shirt and tie. it was unfortunate, he thought, but he was only going to get more boring and work-oriented as he aged, and he just didn’t have the confidence or courage to make any significant lifestyle changes. loneliness was just par for the course, and he’d decided a long time ago that he wasn’t going to allow himself to mind.

Bill chuckles at the ridiculous reply from Harry. sitting down at the dinner table with Rosie his mind drifts to plans he could make with Harry next week.

Hello, Harry Bright! Take note if you are too drunk to function! I will be in London for a week, I can cancel my hotel and stay with you, or if you are tired of boring life at home you can join me in my hotel and I’ll spoil you with plenty of free food and drink! But dance like the dancing queen you are! And I’ll be there monday on the 7pm flight into London! Mark it on your calander! Love you too! Bill Anderson.
