My problem with the thought of Steve dying in the MCU is as follows (and I admit a lot of this is inspired from another post I saw on the subject and I agreed wholeheartedly with the person who wrote it, so if it seems I’m reiterating points already discussed, I am, I own it).
Steve would die with experiencing no growth. Not only that, it sets a rather bad precedence.
I’ll explain:
Steve grew up sickly during the Great Depression. This led him to believe, as Ta-Nehisi Coates so beautifully put in Steve’s recent comics, that Steve didn’t feel like ‘a man’. He felt lesser. As a result, he never learned to value himself. Everyone else’s life was more valuable than his own.
Proof of that is this, scene, here:
Steve, in the MCU, has never had a problem with sacrificing himself. It’s been his life’s motto. Because his childhood bullying and the time period in which he was raised taught him to believe that he was lacking and less deserving of a place in society. That he fit better as a sacrificial lamb.
The sad thing in all of this that by first being sickly, and then later being largely only seen by others in the context of Captain America - The Symbol™ and not Steve Rogers - The Man™ (reinforcing the belief that Steve, by himself, wasn’t enough), is that Steve has never learned how to live.
In the comics Steve has been in and out of love. He’s worked as a commercial artist and a comic artist. He’s been to Wakanda, he’s been to Atlantis. He’s had the ears of kings and gods. He’s been to space, he’s met aliens of all kinds. He’s been engaged, he’s had his heart broken, only to have it be mended again with a different partner. He’s been on a couple of road trips around America. He’s lived a full life.
MCU!Steve has not. And if he dies by sacrificing himself in Avengers 4 he would have never learned to value himself nor learn to live life to its fullest.
Bullied children can grow up and thrive. Sick children can grow up and thrive. Soldiers can come home and adjust and find their groove again - it can get better! Killing Steve without him having learned any of that would be exactly the wrong message to send.
I will be immensely disappointed in Feige if this is the route he chose to go in which to end Steve’s arc.
But think about it like he has nothing to go on for…Tony is engaged n wanting children. Everybody moving on…MCU!Steve thinks he has done enough harm and wanting to mend things by sacrificing himself….
Valuing life less because a person may or may not have ‘anything to live for’ is a rather horrific slippery slope. And not one Disney, which a family company, is going to endorse.
Because, and I mean this from the bottom of my heart, one’s value is not determined by whether they are engaged or not.
No way are they going to have Steve Rogers, an immensely popular character, offer himself up on an alter because he’s not one half of a couple and isn’t expecting children (currently - he does have an adopted son in the comics). No way.
Honestly, this idea that someone who is part of a couple makes them more valuable is rather disturbing, and I say this as someone who is married! I mean, maybe I feel this way because I was raised by a divorcee who had a hard time buying her first house because she didn’t have a husband (but damn well did it anyway despite all the judgement she received, go mom!!!) but seriously, this idea that Tony’s life is more valuable because he’s one half of a couple and wants kids is not... good. We should be over this by now, guys. It’s 2018. There is nothing wrong with being single.
And honestly, why do people feel that if Steve doesn’t die Tony must, or that if Tony lives, Steve must die? My prediction: neither are going to die. They killed Loki and are now giving him his own streaming show! Lets be real here: Neither character would ever permanently be taken off the roster (unless, like Harrison Ford with Han Solo, the actor specifically asks to be killed off... and they didn’t even let the character rest, even then, and immediately started planning a movie centered around a younger version!!!). And I’ll give you the reason why: because they are Iron Man and Captain America and they are billion dollar intellectual properties, and because... merchandising.
Besides, television shows like Walking Dead and Game of Thrones have made killing off characters for shock value rather cliche and tired anyway. At this point the greater twist is A4 ending with all characters, old and new, sitting around eating shawarma. You know, kind of like how Star Trek: the Next Generation ended (only that was a poker game, not shawarma), which Kevin Feige specifically mentioned, by name, (he knew the specific episode title “All Good Things”, the big nerd, bless him) as an influence for A4. Just saying.
@imperiuswrecked - Just read Avengers #8. I am on Namor’s side in this.
I’ve done my internal screaming and am now patiently waiting for more of my favorite fish man.
I can’t imagine Steve, or Thor, or T’Challa, if they knew what went down truly, would be against Namor getting justice, here. So there has to be more here, definitely looks like Namor is not the villain in this, because based on what we’ve seen:
Atlanteans board a whaling ship to stop it (one ship out of a fleet of whaling ships, apparently), are immediately machine gunned down by the whalers and their bodies hung up like a trophy along the side of the ship.
...Namor, get them, man. You have my full support. Steve, I adore you more than life itself, but don’t get in his way.

Helloooooooooo! Just making sure you’re ready for that annual to drop!
Hi! I’m going to go pick it up at lunch and am super excited!
Sorry for the delay in response and for being no-show lately. I dislocated my arm (long story involving relay competitiveness and the annual company picnic lol). And unfortunately it is my dominate arm (my right arm and I’m right-handed) which makes texting or posting on Tumblr kinda painful until it fully heals. I mean I can type with my left (which I’m doing now), but it takes five hours versus the usual five seconds so I’ve just been lazy and haven’t bothered. I will try to post screen shots and a review of today’s annual either today or tomorrow though! :)
Also, just wanted to add that I will answer my other asks as soon as I am able. Sorry for the delay!
Ooops! Sorry about the arm! That’s understandable! I just enjoy seeing your posts and you had me kinda worried.
Thanks @gingerfan23 and @imperiuswrecked - appreciate it. That’s very sweet of you. :)
I’m feeling much better. They said (almost two weeks ago) that it would take roughly six weeks to fully recover but at least driving and/or moving my arm at all doesn’t really hurt any longer so I’m taking that as a sign I’m getting there.

You have these Marvel comics creators you follow on twitter, thinking they’re pretty cool people, then the drop the bombshell that they eat…
…candy corn.
Ewww. Gross.
There goes that pedestal. ;)
It is our right as Americans to eat compressed marshmallow fluff and food coloring if we damn well please. ;P
LOL, I stand corrected. You are right. This is absolutely a right that you have. Just, you know, don’t mind the intense gagging noises coming from my person. They can’t be helped. It’s a legitimate condition. I’ve got candy-corn-makes-me-gag-itus. WebMD has a whole page on the phenomenon and everything. :D
Here is a small doodle of 1941 Steve, because I´m really lazy today.
+ colored pencils +

So Cap #3 was very intriguing. Coates is moving things along at the perfect pace.
It’s starts off with Sharon being sent on a mission assigned by Ross but she quickly figures out that she’s been set up (you go girl!)...
Meanwhile, Steve and T’Challa have been secretly working together to get to the bottom of who has been creating the Nuke clones and causing the terrorist attacks...
..Coates isn’t even in the general vicinity of messing around. These (above) panels are so on-point. You go, Coates.
“Close ties with Washington”. Shocker.
Narrator: she was not shocked.
Again. Not surprised.
And yeah, Steve, love you, but you really should start expecting this stuff. That said your persistence to believe in people, in basic human decency, no matter how many times you’ve been burned, is one of your more endearing traits so, keep being you, buddy.
And awww, T’Challa is a sweetheart. Good pep talk there, king. It’s as if T’Challa heard my thoughts.
I interrupt this review to bring you T’Challa, Steve and Okoye, otherwise known as Team Awesome™, striking a majestic pose...
...You’re welcome.
Anyhoo, they break in to Nuke clone central and they kick major ass, because they’re Team Awesome and that’s what Team Awesome does.
And I’m going to have to interrupt this review, again, to bring you Steve Rogers kicking a Nuke clone in the face. Majestically.
...
...You’re welcome x2.
So as I was saying, they came, they saw, they kicked some ass and then Okoye discovered something that set off of the alarm bells...
Meanwhile, Sharon meets Selene, the life-force sucking vampire mutant lady (bit of a mouthful as titles go).
And we get a cliff-hanger. Ugh. I hate waiting. But hey, Coates has me. I want more. Tomorrow, if possible. Have I mentioned how much I’m loving this run yet today?
BTW: General Ross sent Sharon on that mission. He’s an ass and not to be trusted in any universe. People really need to remember this.

Reading Cap #3 right now. God damn Leinil Yu is an amazing artist. I mean, we all already knew this, but it just keeps getting confirmed. He surpasses himself with every page.
Just look at these panels...
... you can just feel Steve’s turmoil.
I’m so in awe of that guy. Coates, too.
