Sometimes I am overwhelmed by the feeling of wanting to shake people and tell them to just make things. Over ten years into writing and a hoard of stories that wouldn't have existed if I hadn't started somewhere to show for it, I have this advice: Even if you think that it's going to be bad, even if you think it's going to cringe, even if you think it would be better if you waited until you got better, just make it now. You won't get better without making things. You won't have the things that you wanted to see to look at if you don't make them.
If it's really as terrible as you think, make it again later after you have improved. No one will stop you. Only you will stop you.

Lana Beniko–With her serene and considerate manner, one might mistake Lana Beniko for a Jedi. She is, however, a Sith Lord of great wisdom and strength who has impressed many of her peers in a considerably short period of time with her keen insights into the nature of the Force.
It was Beniko’s treatise on the perceived moral parallels of Jedi and Sith in battlefield settings-as well as her passion for unraveling the truths and secrets behind the Jedi-that brought her to the attention of Darth Arkous of the Dark Council. She has since become his most trusted advisor.
With the Revanite plot thwarted, Darth Marr recognized Lana’s talents and appointed her head of Sith Intelligence. Unfortunately, her first assignment as minister ended in disaster when the Sith Emperor consumed all life on Ziost. Since Arcann’s rise to power, she has been on the run, devising a plan to find the one person who can return order to the galaxy…
An Unexpected Ally-While no SIS database appears to mention Lana Beniko by name, further scrutiny might offer a glimpse into the psyche of this unusual Sith Lord. As detailed in an incident report, a skirmish on Hoth between Republic and Imperial forces during the Treaty of Coruscant ended abruptly when an unidentified female Sith Lord leapt into the midst of the battle, demanding an immediate ceasefire-and an explanation for the fight. When an Imperial officer suggested she wouldn’t understand to nuances of military conflict, he lost his right hand to a lightning-fast lightsaber strike.
The Sith, whose reported appearance closely matches that of Beniko, then told everyone to return to their bases and not reengage. The command was promptly obeyed by all, and the Sith Lord was purportedly never seen by Republic forces again.
Shadow of Revan is still my favorite. Written by Alexander Freed and Charles Boyd. They created my all time favorite, Theron Shan.
Lana and Theron were great allies and continued to be strong supporters to the “Outlander” in the Knights of the Fallen Empire storyline and beyond.

Galactic Standard Calendar
5 days = 1 week
7 weeks = 1 month
35 days = 1 month
368 days = 1 year
10 months + 3 Fete (Festival) weeks + 3 holidays = 1 year
Fete/Festival Weeks
New Year Fete Week = first five days of the new year (takes place before the first month)
Festival of Life = five days between the sixth and seventh months. It was marked by parties, get-togethers, and gift-giving.
Festival of Stars =five days between the ninth and tenth months of the year that celebrates interstellar space travel. It was marked by vacations to other worlds most often.

The Galactic Standard Calendar is based on the luno-solar calendar of Coruscant (from before the official founding of the Empire). It is the ‘standard’ in both the Republic and the Empire for basic measurements. However, there are many, many variations for various species, planets, etc. This is just the ‘standard’ used; similar to measurements of weight, etc.
Basically, this is not the ‘only calendar’ but the one used most often by governments, the military, etc. to be the ‘standard’. I thought it might be useful for people writing or roleplaying in the Star Wars galaxies to have a rough idea.
NOTE: There is mention in some sources of a 12 month/368 day calendar, but it doesn’t mention length of weeks, months, etc. other than ‘30-31 days’ so basically seems to be a ‘real life calendar’. I’m not 100% sure which is considered ‘canon’ so I choose to list the one that was a bit more ‘different’ for fun.

I thought it was impressive at first that it replaced IRC, but now I am horrified. If the company behind Discord went under today, how many friends would you lose?

Here is a program that lets you download any and all of your discord DMs, your servers, everything. You can set the format (raw text, html (dark and light), and others. You can even download the uploaded files not just the text, though that may be just for the command-line version not the GUI window version.

Please back up your conversations, your stories. I have a backup of everything I care about that runs once a week, with full attachment backups every several months. I write stories on discord, and would be devastated if someone happened to them. You have to have your own local copies of every file you care about.
Writing advice from my uni teachers:
If your dialog feels flat, rewrite the scene pretending the characters cannot at any cost say exactly what they mean. No one says “I’m mad” but they can say it in 100 other ways.
Wrote a chapter but you dislike it? Rewrite it again from memory. That way you’re only remembering the main parts and can fill in extra details. My teacher who was a playwright literally writes every single script twice because of this.
Don’t overuse metaphors, or they lose their potency. Limit yourself.
Before you write your novel, write a page of anything from your characters POV so you can get their voice right. Do this for every main character introduced.
This is legit good writing advice, especially the first bullet point! In playwriting class we did a bit where every bit of dialogue had to be an accusatory question and it was glorious.

I used to worry about my fics’ canon characters being too OOC. Then I realized that most are if not all canon characters are OOC to some degree. I’m gonna write that fic!
