I'm Stereax, you can call me whatever you want though really. Any pronouns. New Jersey native, half Polish half American. Was studying International Relations in Geneva, Switzerland, living in Fr*nce because the rent is cheaper... I got around, I guess LOL. Back stateside now, though, studying law!
I see everyone who interacts with me on a regular basis and I love you all <3
I'm primarily a Devils fan (obviously, from NJ so). If you don't know the Devils yet, here's my 24-25 primer! (and here's my 23-24 primer, and here's their 2023 playoff run primer!) Oh, also here's the Kingdom series of poetry I wrote about those 22-23 Devils and set to pictures.
Secondary teams are the Knights and Panthers. I'm not accepting criticism at this time, sorry :)
I follow quite a few other NHL teams with varying degrees of care - not going to list who I like and who I don't, but if you name an NHL team chances are I can talk at length about them. Yes, even the Rangers.
On top of that, I'm getting into major junior and college hockey, so that's fun! Always down to chat about those. Also keeping eyes on European leagues too. I just... really like hockey, haha.
I'm also fairly decent at talking puck on the more technical side of things (cap stuff, trades, team compositions, discourse, etcetera etcetera) - a lot of my asks, and my Cap-Sized work, revolve around this and I enjoy taking the time out to parse these things out for those who may be confused about them!
My inbox is ALWAYS OPEN. Send me whatever you want. Questions about hockey, the Devils or any other team, my life, comments, posts, WHATEVER. I'm not kidding, please talk to me, I love answering asks, getting recommendations, or whatever else have you. Hell, drop into my DMs if you want!
More yapping under the cut -
Some important self tags you should know:
My most used tag is #beat reporter stereax which is frantic reposting of Twitter things (and sometimes other things) that are hockey news. If you're not interested in that, block that tag now, because I tend to post a LOT of news under it. Also see #off the beat for NHL news that isn't really NHL news but is too funny not to share.
#stereanswers is my general answer tag, all answers and stuff go in there. #stereanalysis and #stereducation are generally for longer-form talks about hockey on the technical side, with the former being for most/all technical hockey considerations (whether shorter or longer) while the latter is generally for longer but hopefully quite informative posts. #sterechats :) is non-directly-hockey related posting (although I tend to try to keep that to a minimum).
There are also #sterepoetry for hockey-related poems I write and #stereax plays a tag game which I think is self-explanatory.
But yeah, I think that's about it! If you have any questions... there's a big red button that reads "wanna talk hockey?" up there to put them in :D

no one except for me knows about childhood friends to lovers soulbond bullshit that was happening in omsk and and is currently happening in the metro. but I endeavor to change that.
who's who?
Arseni Gritsyuk (#81, njd)
- exciteable joyfull pitbull with ambitions of content creation, which is to say that he is a nosey social butterfly
- expressive, enthusiastic, passionate
- obvious potential, slow development, has spent a lot of time in the limbo of feeling like people are not letting him prove himself as a player (with the happy ending in the form of him first dominating in the khl when he finally got ice time and now finally getting to the nhl this year)
- he also has an olympics silver from 22 (and scored the game winner in the shootout in the semifinal)
- general attitude of a buddhist monk. in a sense that he has accepted that desire is the root of all suffering and seeks to purge himself of it. however this is an assessment based on media done when he was in columbus so it may just be the natural reaction to being in ohio
- quiet, calm, dry humor, doesn't volunteer information. however, when he does speak it becomes obvious that he is downright sentimental
- got to the nhl immediately after winning the cup with omsk
- exceptional wrist shot, much quicker development than grits, in general seems to be less sensitive about failure, because of the aforementioned buddhist monk attitude
their general dynamic is... well. this is not black cat/golden retriever. this is an exciteable pitbull/some sort of phlegmatic bird. they have been friends for a long, long time, and chino seems to be the keeper of all of grits' most embarrassing moments and stories (to the dismay of grits, who is adamant that he has never done anything wrong, ever, and if he did it was a long time ago and EGOR DON'T SAY ANYTHING). grits is the more animated of the two, and revealing his emotions comes easier to him than to egor, who tends to keep things closer to his chest. they clearly just really like hanging out together with their stupid thing 1 and thing 2 routine. their introduction to their joined 2 parter podcast was "this is arseni gritsyuk, and this is his best friend - just friend :) - egor chinakhov"
both came up in the avangard omsk development program together, which means that they played with each other since they were actual children. and they've been friends throughout. and of course they were linemates.
went through the whole gamut together: juniors, worlds, minor leagues, and were both recent call-ups in the cup run for omsk in 2021, which they fucking Won. had parallel but wildly different relationship arcs with bob hartley (who coached avangard at the time) with chino having a transcendent and calm experience of humbly surrendering to the will of the tides and hartley's authority (with the result of hartley asserting that egor should decide what line he plays on, Actually) and grits in contrast confidently stating that he should play in the top 5 and accidentally trapping himself in a whiplash remake with bob hartley. which btw culminated in grits stomping out the competition, getting on the olympic roster, and then leaving omsk in free agency to play for ska.
their paths have diverged after omsk won the cup in 21, with chino going to the nhl to suffer in ohio, and grits going into his shonen arc through the khl. (still keeping in touch and meeting up in the summer. of course)
miscellaneous:
- an important thing to understand about chinakhov in columbus is that avangard omsk 20-21 was haunting him like a dead wife. in the podcast I am basing all this off of, which is from uhhh I want to say 2024, he talks a lot about the nhl lacking the soul and team spirit khl did. ("in the nhl it's all just... business. there's no connection"). he misses team bonding. he feels disconnected from the team. this man is missing the power of love. which is one of the factors that led to him being traded to pittsburgh (besides everything else).
- grits has apparently spent a lot of time trying to weedle out of egor what the nhl is like and how it is different from the khl. to no avail. because egor has just always said that it's "just different"
- when grits came over to america egor hosted him for dinner
- when they were at one of their junior tourneys during covid they weren't allowed to leave their hotel rooms outside of training. apparently, "some guys would just spend the entire day on call with each other". I Know What You Are
- grits in new jersey is busy being apparently instantly beloved by the lockerroom And taking pics of nico hischier in various states of undress. hashtag influencer
in conclusion: there's a fucking soul bond and now they play in the same division

what they dont tell you is that if you're a hockey fan for a long enough time you start feeling insane about the new wave of fans who don't know Anything. not in a hockey sense, but in a fandom sense
Iām gonna be so fr rn, yall gotta stop acting like womenās sports only contributions/offerings are 1) that most of the athletes are queer 2) some sort of āmorally pureā version of the sport. you donāt realize that youāre doing it but youāre de-valuing them to a point of queerness + morality meter. which the latter is just insane when there are POSā amongst womenās sports

nhl goalie problems: like 3 teams have a legit great goalie. league sv% below .900 for the first time in a william years. every goalie streaky and prone to suddenly throwing a series.
pwhl goalie problems: every team has three goalies who should be starters. worst GAA in the league would be middle of the pack in the nhl. nobody can score a fucking goal bc they're all brick walls.
Also I feel like the NHL is obsessed with their dudes being Absolute Giants and the PWHL has Aerin Frankel who is freaking 5ā5ā and one of the best goalies in the league.
You donāt need to be freak of nature sized to be a good goalie, you need skill!

Okay hold the phone. I looked it up to make sure I remembered correctly, but Sean Avery is so full of shit. Toradol, also known as ketorolac, is an NSAID very similar to ibuprofen (but 800x more potent than aspirin by weight) thatās only indicated for acute pain (<5 days). It is not a narcotic. It is not habit-forming. Toradol is actually what they use post-op with patients with a history of opioid use disorder. It does not make you feel high.
It does have a variety of side effects (increased risk of internal bleeding, kidney failure, increased risk of GI complications, and a dubious claim about increased risk of cardiovascular events). There is a risk of hepatotoxicity, as Sean mentioned, and that risk increases the longer you take it, but it isnāt some kind of afternoon special about fentanyl.
Not saying Toradol overuse isnāt a problem, but the way he describes its effects is disingenuous at best, and distracting from his point at worst. This paper notes that āā¦Because of the route of administration in that many players felt that āgetting a shotā was an āintrinsic signā that they were getting a more powerful medicine.ā I suspect this accounts for some of the euphoria he mentions.
this commentary is like⦠not wrong but iām not sure why itās levelled here. he does not say that itās a narcotic or that it is habit-forming at any point in this text. i can understand the narcotic thing because of his high comment, but i donāt even know where the habit-forming thing came from, because itās not relevant to this excerpt. at all.
reading this it seemed pretty clear to me that avery is describing his personal experience as a hockey player being given a strong painkiller. of course he feels euphoric, he just got given a shot that allows him to play more hockey despite injury, likely inbetween periods when heās amped up. calling him āfull of shitā for a personal account of how he feels taking medication is like⦠okay, but why
Hi! I actually made that post partially in response to a quote the person above posted. Itās an excerpt from an article about Jimmy Hayesā death and struggles with addiction to the pain meds he was prescribed during his playing career. Speaking about a similar case a decade ago, the author Rick Westhead, puts the sentences āDuring his final two years in the NHL, doctors with seven teams gave him 13 Toradol injections,ā and āDuring the 2008-09 season alone, he was prescribed 1,021 pills from roughly a dozen different doctors, according to his medical recordsā next to each other. In the context of the article, this implies that the two facts (13 Toradol shots and 1,021 pills) were both contributing factors to (Derek Boogaard)ās addiction and subsequent death. Thatās categorically false, but if you donāt work in the medical field or have experience with Toradol, you might get the impression that it is in some way addictive or habit forming. And then later I saw this post reblogged and thought Iād cite some sources for why we shouldnāt take what Sean Avery says as gospel. Crazy that I have to say that, but this is 2026 I guess.
The point of the post was supposed to be āThink about your sourceā not āScrew Sean Avery.ā Even though he is factually wrong about IM Toradol being worse for your liver than PO (neither of which are particularly bad for your liver anyway). Who knows, maybe he is the one person in the world who feels like heās having a continuous orgasm when he takes Toradol. But treating that as in any way an indication of typical effects is disingenuous, and like I said previously, undermines the point I think this quote is trying to make. To me that point is: thereās a culture of poorly regulated prescription abuse in the NHL that athletes and those who care for them justify for the sake of the sport. Reading the articles I just linked to, that can have a real impact on peopleās lives. It is a problem! But the problem isnāt Toradol, and I know enough about that drug to correct some of the underlying assumptions I was seeing about it. I deal with a lot of medical misinformation at work that I canāt do much about there, so I thought Iād throw in my two cents here. If that didnāt land, apologies?
