Patience and persistence for the win today! I knew when publishing Mind of a Pirate (my adult, historical fantasy) that I wanted it to go on KU. I was nervous because it was my first time truly dedicating a book to ONLY ever be on Amazon and since it's not a romance, I wasn't sure how it would do. Well, it took some time and I became even less sure, but today, the read count has officially gone higher than the page count! So, a very heartfelt "THANK YOU💜🫂" to whoever you lovely readers are!

Chapter 7

Time for another chapter! We're heading back to the Fire Nation. I'm sure that the new fire lord, Ozai, won't have anything nefarious planned. That'd just be unlike him :D

S-Sirens blared as Riley cleared the net guns around the mall; his form was too agile, and the need to avoid human traps was too familiar.

O-Originally, Surveyors had been something closer to their namesake, a group of scouts who assessed the land leased to the humans, and who negotiated with the shifters for resources.

U- Ultimately, if Riley was a legendary shifter like the grandfather, it was thousands of years old, not centuries. The forms at its disposal would all be lethal.

L- “Love would have been nice for him to know.”

Wow... I didn't know this was a dark, epic fantasy when I bought this book! Definitely had some emotional scenes! This was darker than I expected In a good way, lol). This book's worldbuilding is super immersive, and it's got a great cultural setting ^^ (don't we all love that in fantasy??😆).

Without spoiling anything, I wanna say that this book has amazing found family, dark/epic fantasy, redemption (with Hitori ;)) Character-driven plots (like seeking trust) and LGBTQ + themes. This novel also taps into current social conversations about prejudice and systemic injustice by having discrimination between magical and non-magical groups (which parallels to real-world issues like racism or classism).

I would say the dialogue between characters (like Hitori, Adeliva, Kalen + more...) also fits the tone of this book very well! Nobody asked but Adeiva is my fav character :3 It's engaging and balances action scenes with dialogue. 😁

Overall, I would recommend this book for an older YA audience who enjoy dark, character-driven epic fantasy with queer representation and found-family dynamics. Found family is always a plus for me no matter what the genre 🤣.
