Tony: "Monica, I love you awfully much."
Monica: "No, Tony! You love me... awfully."
I think these quotes here perfectly summarise not only the ep, but the whole show.
These people only know how to love awfully, and they have convinced themselves that this is what love is about. And you see them all clinging to failing relationships because that's better than being alone. And the deception runs so deep that even when they find someone they love right or they could right they don't even recognise it.
And in the end, Monica pays the highest price. And it's unfair in so many ways, especially because her death will now become about Tony. Yet another thing he would take from her.
I don't know if this happened in the books, tbh. And I'm not even saying that is bad storytelling, because I actually think it is good storytelling. But I will cry once again for the loss of another f/f couple that will never see the light on screen.
I feel the biggest problem of this second season is that most things happen behind the cameras, which is insane if you consider the lenght of the eps.
Are Taggie and Rupert the main couple? Then focus on that. I'm not even sure what Bas and Taggie are supposed to be. Are they dating? Are they friends? What?
Focus on Cameron. Show me her pov, because I'm tired of guessing. At least now she has figured out that her relationship with Rup has no future. Let her move on; let her have a friendship with another woman! Hell, let her develop a friendship with Taggie or Lizzie. Or both. Women have friends, you know. We are not just about men 🤷🏻♀️
There is something so tragic about Declan and Maud that is so entertaining. They are both lying to themselves and staying trapped in a marriage they both hate. In each episode, they decide to stay unhappy together instead of being apart but happy. Insane.
And I don't know if Cameron lied about his night with Cameron or not. My preference doesn't matter here. The only thing I know is that writers have the chance here to write a good, slow-burn romance, and it would be a shame if they wasted the potential.
I know the books have an ending, but frankly, screw that! I want to see Cameron falling in love. I don't care about a last-minute endgame with a young man who doesn't even know her. I mean, the fact that the only romance we won't see developing on screen is the one involving a black woman is not really a good look. Give her a fucking romance.
Same with Maud. She is not my fav, but I get it, ok? And I don't want her trapped in a failed marriage just because Declan forgave her. And the same goes for Declan.
I'm actually excited to know what will happen now that Maud/Tony is not a secret anymore. What will Archie and Caitlin do now in the aftermath of Monica's death? Will Tony manipulate them into keeping quiet? Will Maud reveal the truth? Will Tony die a horrible death?
p.s.: my hc is that Monica is actually faking her death to get away from Tony.
