Geralt, who always acts like he doesn’t care about Jaskier, doesn’t love the delightful bard.

So Jaskier comes up with a bit of a brilliant, and a bit reckless plan.

At first, he's simply the bard—a title, not a person. No names. No attachments.

Then, somewhere along the road, he becomes Jaskier. Geralt might grumble about it, but the truth is harder to ignore: he likes the bard.

And eventually, without ever noticing exactly when it happened, Geralt catches himself thinking of him as my bard.

Not the bard.

Geralt turned at the sound of a delicate cough.

Perched atop the table was the fae, Jaskier, striking what he clearly believed to be a devastatingly seductive pose. One hand rested beneath his chin, wings fluttering lazily behind him.

A second later, he shifted into another pose.

Then another.

Geralt pinched the bridge of his nose.

“You know,” he said, with the patience of a man nearing his limit, “you can just leave.”

“I could,” Jaskier replied brightly.

The fae shimmered, magic rippling through the room as he expanded from a creature barely three apples tall into a full-grown man sprawled across Geralt’s chair like royalty in exile.

“But what fun would that be?”

Geralt folded his arms. “You’re the one who got caught sneaking into my camp.”

“You trapped me in a jar,” Jaskier corrected, scandalized. “A jar, Geralt.”

“I said I was sorry.”

Jaskier laughed then — light and chiming, like bells caught in a summer breeze.
