this is prompted by a convo me and @stellaride-chihard were having last night but i truly feel like a lot of season 14’s problems could’ve been solved if there was a decent ship on the show besides stellaride

like i don’t know, seasons 4-6 had both stellaride and dawsey, seasons 7-12 had stellaride and brettsey, and seasons 11-13 had stellaride and mikarver. dawsey were still together when stellaride were being set up. and ever since they’ve been solid, there has been a side ship to take the heat off of them. that is, until this season where all there was besides them was a lame, annoying love triangle that no one cares about. it doesn’t feel like a coincidence that the one season where there is no decent side ship for stellaride is the worst season of the show because stellaride are being forced to take on drama that, as the solid married couple, they shouldn’t have to be. that’s not to say they can’t carry the show by themselves because they totally can (and have for years). but they shouldn’t HAVE TO. and it’s lazy writing to put all of the drama and pain onto one couple because no one else is important or interesting enough

and mind you, i’m saying this as someone who despises brettsey. but at least with brettsey you could tell there was some effort into setting them up and a lot of fans loved them. and again, they took some heat off of stellaride. those things can’t be said for any current ship

and while i'm still angry and emotional and watching old episodes, I HOPE THAT STELLA AND KELLY MADE IT TO PICTURED ROCKS IN SEASON 8

and here are my thoughts on miranda's interview too, because i realized i haven't shared my opinions publicly. basically, the whole thing is just one giant walking red flag.

actors already deal with enough anxiety. i've seen it, i've dealt with it, i have comforted them as they've sobbed backstage. but a lot of that comes from internal pressure and the high expectations that they place on themselves. when that pressure comes from an outside source then it becomes a toxic workplace, full stop.

additionally, this just REEKS of misogynoir. i know there's been 14 seasons of this show, but i genuinely cannot think of another character who has had so much hell thrown at them in such a short amount of time with no payoff. yeah, it's fiction, but when you have such deep care for your character, those emotions become real. that's a place of grief that you are returning to constantly with no healing. stella may not be a real person who's still feeling this grief when episodes end, but miranda is. and when your character doesn't get to heal from or even feel anything, then you don't get to. i have been racking my brain, and i genuinely cannot think of another time that another character had to go through something like this. and the first time it's happening in 14 seasons is to the black woman. doesn't feel like a coincidence.
