I participated in the @aa-spring-swap this year! This piece is for @cosmiccomma who asked for

something silly involving edgeworth, maya, and the steel samurai franchise!

I added Phoenix and Pearl cause I like the idea of Edgeworth always being over at Phoenix's office and Maya using the space for all her movie nights!

I've been working on and off on trying to draw ace attorney character sheet doodle things? I don't know what to call them. Anyways.

As part of an image prompt for @aceattorneybingo I redrew Penny and Larry hanging out in the background of the Wii Promo Art. I think Larry should do some art for the Steel Samurai cards both because he's good at it and because Edgeworth would die inside a little bit.

Pheonix: vanilla and chocolate chip... strikes me as a guy who knows what he likes and what he likes is boring

Edgeworth: okay if there's not some dumbass steel samurai promo ice cream going on I think he'd get stracciatella because it's the exact same thing that phoenix gets but with a fancier name (I also think he'd be pretty adventurous, getting whatever new trendy flavor is happening. dubai chocolate matcha ect.)

Maya: I'm projecting onto her and saying that she would get the same abomination that i got at 10 years old which is one scoop vanilla cookies and cream one scoop rainbow ice. it's so good trust

Pearl: I think she'd get choice anxiety and either let maya order for her or get vanilla and then just every single topping option. im talking gummy bears graham crackers every kind of drizzle. BUT!!! if the option presents she would get a sundae

Franziska: triple chocolate fudge swirl insanity. I'm a believer that Franziska has a sweet tooth like you wouldn't believe but also only eats ice cream at home and she just buys a massive tub once a week to stick in her freezer. This is the opposite of edgeworth who only eats ice cream if he's out and about.

Gumshoe: Ice cream sandwich.

Klavier: like edgeworth I think he'd get whatever's on trend but also i think if he walks past an ice cream truck he'll get a vanilla chocolate swirl with sprinkles :) for the nostalgia. Kristoph used to lecture him about how soft serve has more additives than scooped and now he does it out of spite

Apollo: Neopolitan. it annoys everyone slightly when they ask what ice cream he has

Trucy: If there are any super obscure/ specialty flavors she'll get that ESPECIALLY if it kinda sounds gross but if not she'll get mint chocolate chip

Athena: Won't shut up about how good gelato is and how different it is from ice cream and god why isn't "lemon "limon" a standard flavor in america and wahh wahh wahh. Some sort of fruity-icy-y thing

It's the fic in my pinned post! I'm writing it with my girlfriend.

Metal Masquerade is a metafictiony story about fandom and escapism and falling in love as a messy young adult. It's a Franmaya slow burn that takes place over the course of one single year, directly after game three (but ignoring the timeline because I hate it lol)

Of course it must start as a sickfic because that is my favorite plot device. After game 3, Maya and Franziska both get sick on the tail end of all the bullshit at Hazakura and end up convalescing at an impromptu sleepover for a few days. There, Maya shows Franziska Steel Samurai, but more importantly, Pink Princess.

Featuring the stand out from @pictureswithboxes's first AA casefic: The Cobalt Crusader!!!!!

Originally crafted to be kind of a one-off standin for Franziska in the StSamverse, I immediately became obsessed with her and started begging Bailey for permission to flesh out deeper backstory with what Bailey had already laid down. Both on a story level (her origin story) and on a meta level (her place in the stsam canon already present in AA) Bailey let me have a ton of creative control over Cobalt, and I was shipping her with Pink long before that moment for obvious Franmaya reasons.

The short pitch for Metal Masquerade is that Maya and Franziska are kin with these bitches. The story is not only about them falling in love and navigating all their differences and disagreements, but it's about how fandom gives them an outlet to express all those feelings, for better and for worse. Throughout the fic, we follow two stories--Maya and Franziska as they grow together despite everything, and Pink and Cobalt as they do the same.

MM is our baby and we have poured so much love and time into it. We kinda knew that just given the nature of FranMaya we would not get a lot of attention but goddamnit I have to write this story before I die, it's lived in my head for so long and I am desperate to unleash it.

Something funny and cursed

I heard the name "Petronella" today and I was like

You know...Miles would consider calling his daughter that lol. Maybe not a first name. He is smart after all. But a middle name. And he could be talked out of it.

He would also consider Diana. That he might actually push for.

And of course, there is the option to honor his father Gregory via her name.

I could see him hearing the name "Gregoria" and thinking "that sounds like a friend of Godzilla's". So maybe something close to that like Grace or Gretchen or something lol

Cobalt has two looks, her movie look and her miniseries look. In the movie, when she crashes down to earth / Olde Tokyo, her outfit is more inspired by classic European Crusaders. Bailey told me at the time of writing TS she had no real design for Cobalt other than that she was blue, so I drew her like this:

Later on we worked out that she used the Magistrate's sword after he "died" so ignore her having the razor whip on the first one haha.

Her miniseries look is more Japan inspired since by then she is integrated with the rest of society and has made the choice to better understand and respect their culture. Baileys original ref has her kimono backwards but it's been corrected since:

I gave her markings on her face because I wanted her to match the magistrate's Kabuki thing but it's optional at this point lol. I prefer to draw her with a mouth but I know Bailey doesn't. And if it's her movie look, she might have the razor whip/shattered face from where Iron Got Her at the end. If it's her miniseries look she should always have that.

But you can get fun with it. We don't describe in much detail how Cobalt looks otherwise.
