Currently infatuated with the vision of:
Someone waking up in an unfamiliar bed (hotel? guest room? partner's bedroom? -- your choice) and almost immediately beginning the morning with a sneeze.
They manage to turn and muffle it into the pillow just in time (or perhaps they were already in a position to readily do so), expecting that will quell the tickle that appears to be what woke them up in the first place.
...Only that doesn't seem to help matters. On the contrary, it immediately makes things worse. Their sinuses flood with congestion and the tickle flares up immediately.
Bleary-eyed and blinking away both the heaviness of sleep and now tears of irritation, they sniffle thickly as it slowly dawns on them that the pillow itself (dust mites? down feathers? scented product?) appears to be the problem.
They squint at the alarm clock next to the bed -- it's much earlier than they thought. The person they're sharing a bed with is still fast asleep.
They sneeze a second time, once again instinctively muffling it into the pillow before they can think better of it. It's absolutely the wrong thing to do, but they really don't want to wake their partner up this early. If they try to slip out of bed now they'll surely do exactly that.
And so, when the third sneeze starts building, what other choice do they have than to repeat a doomed cycle?
I’ve got to know if this is a me thing or an anyone thing. Extremely specific here, question aimed at ppl of snzblr who DM/GM for TTRPGs (of any kind) but for a totally vanilla/regular group. Like ur players are not involved in kink spaces or if they are, this is not a campaign for that. Players too, actually
Context here bc I am this ^^^^ for a 5e game and I love my world building and running the campaign and designing NPCs, love the whole lot of it. And my players and I often joke about like wow if we had a fandom heres what I think they fans would say or what the most popular (crack) ship would be etc.
And I’m not gonna cross the streams with my snz stuff and this campaign bc that icks me out BUT I am curious if anyone’s ever had the thought of “if snzblr fans had access to this story that only exists at the game table, who would be the fan fav or what ship would be snz be implemented onto or who would be headcanoned to be into it,” so on so forth.
Every so often a whumpy thing does come up and I just have to bite down on my tongue and RP it out bc it’s important and emotional but the back of my mind is going “girl the hypothetical fanfic writers wouldve loved that”
It's me, I'm your hyperspecific target audience! I GM for a long running campaign (almost 8 years 🤯) and yes. I am so lucky that my partner is one of my players and I just admitted my kink to them last year and apparently it's contagious because now we are actually answering all those questions together with private RP, fanart and fic :o
I have had the kink for just about as long as I can remember, and it has built up decades worth of shame and nervousness around the topic, so it's wild to go from being too scared/unable to even say the word "sneeze" or similar words aloud, let alone discuss them, to now playing with it with someone who actually enjoys it as much as me 🥹 And yes we have plenty of headcanons and plenty of shipping and whump opportunities in our game and we, the non-hypothetical fanfic writers, do have a lot of fun with it!

Edit because I just remembered, I actually used a snzfic I wrote about our characters to "come out" to him about my kink. Absolutely buckwild way to do it, I would only recommend if you have an amazing and open-minded partner like mine. (I even had the balls to write from their PC's POV and give him the kink 🫠)
We've both written and RP'd quite extensively at this point, with the primary snz ship being our respective DMPC/PC, though I think as potential snzblr ships go our party's paladin might also be pretty popular.
I do want to add a little storytime because I think it illustrates just how wildly emergent collaborative storytelling can be, and how some snzy headcanons just sort of write themselves. It's a bit long, so it's beneath the cut. Here's a sketch of a very important little handkerchief, to entice you.
(Notably at this point, I am aware of Henrik's tragic backstory, and the fact that the first kill he was ever made to commit by his evil pseudo-father figure was due to his failure to stifle a sneeze during some sneaky recon. I am not aware of Henrik's hay fever, or the fact that he harbors shame around his sneezes as a result of this traumatic event.)
Long before I was inducted into the magical snz realm, my druid, D'Cantris, was having a rough time with some new plant magic (Hanahaki, thorns and brambles emerging from his bod, etc.), and @stealthsnz's DMPC, Henrik, offered him a handkerchief to clean himself up. But when Henrik got close, thorny blackberry brambles shot protectively out from D'Cantris's body and tore the handkerchief apart.
Sheepishly, D'Cantris took the shredded handkerchief and promised to fix it (mind you, we are already several layers of allegory and context deep, which I can't reasonable get into), and Henrik shrugged and was like, whatever, I have more.
Several weeks pass and D finally does mend the handkerchief, stitched together with embroidered blackberry brambles, and gifts to it Henrik, who is sort of taken back by the gesture because he isn't really used to people thinking about him, or caring about him, or doing things for him, even if the gesture itself was kind of unnecessary.
And when he is resurrected? He is born anew, in part, by plants and vines and berries as his physical body is stitched back together.
Shortly after, Henrik dies, tragically martyring himself to give the party an opportunity to beat a big scary kraken while the ship they're on is besieged. D'Cantris manages to retrieve a few of his bones in order to attempt a resurrection later, but needs a place to contain them. Because the sails of the ship were badly damaged in the attack, people are trying to locate whatever spare fabric they can get their hands on, even the shirts off their backs, in order to mend the sails, and there, somehow, in the wreckage of it all, is Henrik's embroidered handkerchief.
D takes it and fashions it into a bag to hold Henrik's bones, elevating this little throwaway fabric scrap, this material made for catching and cleaning mess, this evidence of Henrik's secret shame, into a gift and a sacred shroud, to cradle and protect the possibility that Henrik might return to them.
This was all roleplayed years prior to my learning about snzkink. I wasn't led to make any of the choices I made for D'Cantris by the DM. All they did was have Henrik hand him a handkerchief, and I took that and went feral.
So yeah, sometimes the snz and whump just come straight at you and it seems like there shouldn't be any kind of non-kink explanation for it.
Omg I am #blessed by this new art which I am just now seeing 😍 it's basically a holy relic at this point so it's such a treat to get to see it for real!
And yeah, the fact that Henrik always has a few handkerchiefs on him is just something that I had privately decided for him, based on his regular (but secret) need for them. It was just a little detail for me to know for my private freak reasons that wasn't intended to necessarily come up at the table, but this just happened to be a context in which I could give myself extremely minimal exposure therapy, to work on the shame I mentioned in my reblog above. But that was all I expected, that I would have some practice saying such illicit words like "handkerchief" out loud in a safe environment, not that it would become this whole beautifully symbolic motif. I love D&D
