Basic rules for analysing fiction, an incomprehensive list jotted down in a hurry:
The protagonist isn’t always right
The protagonist isn’t always good
The protagonist isn’t always written to be relatable or likeable
The narrator isn’t always right
The narrator isn’t always good
The narrator isn’t always telling the truth
The narrator isn’t always the author
The protagonist’s moral compass, the narrator’s moral compass and the author’s moral compass are three entirely different things that only occasionally overlap
Pay attention to what characters do and not just what they say
Pay special attention when what the characters do is at odds with what they say
A lot of the time the curtains are blue for a reason. If they aren’t, you should read better books

yea i got into this punk au too or maybe it's something close to lostboys who knowsss (urge to see our babies like vampire family or smth) watch out billy enters his killer protective mod he is the youngest
The fact that openly liking a fictional abuser is okay but liking a fictional abuse victim isn't is truly mind-boggling.

Billy got a backstory, and the fandom's favs didn't. I guess that's why they keep giving Eddie and Steve Billy's trauma, lightening their hair, beefing them up...
Because deep down they know Billy's a rich character. We know about his parents, we know about his life at home.
We know more about him than characters who've been present since season 1.
In ST, most characters have to depend on other characters to make up for their flatness.
Billy's fine on his own. In fact, he is the character that makes others look poor in comparison, in terms of characterization and depth. He's the one who makes other characters interesting. He gets characters like Steve to react.
Dacre's mind went far beyond what the Duffers could ever dream of. He saw that there was a story to tell, a story that could actually make Stranger Things more than a Sci fi show.
He's the reason Billy Hargrove didn't end up like Steve or Eddie. Billy didn't end up becoming a joke, and his death was actually detrimental to the story.
I'm glad Billy didn't get Steve's "redemption".
Billy Hargrove is great because of Dacre Montgomery. The less the Duffers have to do with a character, the better they turn out.
Dacre fought to flesh Billy out, and it's a really fucking weird thing to hate him for.

The specific brand of machismo homophobia antis think billy possesses makes absolutely no goddamn sense for many reasons but also when you consider he literally stans a bunch of dudes in makeup like babies he had Motley Crue shit in his room. He listens to hair metal.
“Billy would hate crime anyone who looks and acts different from a hyper masculine attitude” please be serious!!!

the babygirl of it all…
Hes 20 minutes deep on his rant.
I’ve been poking around this fandom for a lil while now and finally summoned the time and strength to art.
i dont know if anyone's pointed this out yet but
steve and eddie are implied to have really shit parents yet we haven't seen them, and they get babyfied by the fandom
we've seen billy get abused on-screen on multiple occasions and everyone makes him out to be worse than vecna and brenner
all i can say to that is
WHAT THE FUCK.
People want the "tragic backstory" without the consequences of the tragic backstory. They want survivors of domestic abuse to be "good" despite the fact that surviving it often produces unhealthy coping mechanisms. There's a weird fascination people have with characters going through hell, but maintaining a kind disposition or being passive to their abusers to demonstrate that they're innocent victims who truly do not deserve what happens to them. However, real survivors get told over and over that the violence they face is their fault because they are not kind or palatable and that is reflected in people's reactions to Billy as a canon abuse survivor whose experiences have been graphically depicted.

A gift for @ihni!! Based on the ultra fun fic Steve learns to love Star Wars 🖤
ship/word prompt: harringrove - sensitive
The tears in Billy’s eyes say more than his mouth ever could.
Because in the past six months that he and Steve have been seeing each other (they can’t say ‘dating’ because that makes it weird), their arguments are often accompanied by those watercoloured eyes.
The one time that Steve had grown beyond frustrated by those tears, he snapped during their petty fight, “Why are you crying?!”
And Billy screeched back, “I’m fucking sensitive, you fucking asshole!”
The argument had stopped not long after, with Billy storming out, but they made up the next day. Still, that night, Steve couldn’t help but think about it.
Billy’s sensitivity. The way the tears came so easily whenever their voices went a little too loud. The way they never spilled over and down Billy’s cheeks. The way they seemed permanent.
And he wondered why.
It wouldn’t be until later, almost a month exactly, that Billy finally opened up about his dad. And Steve stopped questioning the tears.
