Despite his relatively low test scores Denki scored a position as a sidekick pretty much right out of high school.  He was, however, incredibly disappointed to realize that his work as a sidekick would be reserved for if power needed to be restored to a building or something along those lines.  He endured years of this, even if it wasn’t what he wanted for himself as a qualified hero.  

He wouldn’t be complacent forever though.  The very day he turned 23 was the last straw, when a villain on a rampage injured over a hundred people, he begged his chief to let him join in the capture efforts but was refused because he was still ‘too inexperienced’.  It was that moment he knew he wouldn’t be taken seriously as a hero if he stayed put in his dead end sidekick position.  Without hesitation walked away from the hero agency he had dedicated over five years to, and didn’t look back.
