i thought luis was rather pessimistic behind his flirtatious appeal, referring to leon as sancho implying that he views his past in parallel to the uphill battle between don quixote and the windmills. but a part of me also views that as him trusting leon will always be on his side, despite how bizarre and delusional that might be. and leon proves him right at the end. the end!! so i wanted to depict the famous (or infamous) windmill scene, but instead of the usual “don quixote falls to the ground”, it’s “don quixote the fierce knight charges for what he believes to be the evil out of his chivalrous heart”, just like how leon sees luis.

once he went to university, I feel like he was likely the object of many affections pretty early on, so he kinda leaned into the whole 'ladies' man' shtick to feel more accepted. at the same time, he didn't know how to handle the attention and always kept relationships surface-level. he also started smoking because his roommates did, and the stress of working at umbrella inevitably made the habit stick. he liked his team at the U.E. 6 lab well enough, but he kept them at arm's length, too, never going beyond group lunches or break room chats. he would usually go home to his tiny apartment, alone, to continue his research until he couldn't keep his eyes open.
