Remaining whimsy despite it all!

Below are four photos of different types of masks. The first is a blue cloth mask with text below reading: "Cloth [caps] Very Poor [caps end] Skip this. All we had at start but poor for real protection. Stops droplets but not aerosol. Rubs on nose so less comfortable."

The next is a picture of a blue and white surgical mask with text below reading: "Surgical [caps] Poor [caps end] Designed for droplets, not aerosol. Loose fitting. Leaks heavily on sides. Rubs on nose so less comfortable."

The next photo shows a white KN95 mask with text below reading: "KN95 [caps] Better [caps end] Respirator. Much better than surgical. Ear loops means there can be some leakage on sides. Proper fit doesn't rub nose."

The last photo shows a white N95 mask with text below reading: "N95 [caps] Best [caps end] Respirator. Headbands seal better than ear loops. Fit test for better protection."

At the bottom of the graphic is small text reading: "Get a good mask that fits your face and that you will wear. KN95 and N95 can be reused. Assign different mask per day of week. Good until dirty or elastic issues. Avoid handling front of mask after wearing."

Dr. Ryland Grace was arguably the perfect backup candidate for his mission. Stratt got that right. He had no children, no life partner, no family, not even a dog. All he had was his students and that was enough for him, but that made him replaceable.

Right?

Not only were Grace’s wishes completely ignored, his life and his value as a person was undermined. Simply because he had no one but his students to care for his wellbeing, because he wouldn’t have someone at home waiting for him to come back.

Aroace people deal with similar treatment simply because romance and sex are seen as essential to the human experience, completely disregarding any and all other types of connection. One’s inherent value as a person is not lost when they choose to live life without romantic or sexual relationships. One’s value is simply in existing.

Aroace people know this well, which is why so many have become so attached to Ryland as a character. Many of us see his way of life as the end goal for ourselves, so any one of us would have been seen as just as dispensable, by Stratt and by society as a whole.
