Had a dating app adventure that went from dry conversation to bot behavior. I'm doing the expected thing: making an effort to keep up the conversation, responding in full sentences and giving details that could be the start of their own questions, and asking new questions whenever she has a response. Typical "I'm trying to get to know you and take an active interest in you" stuff. Suddenly, her profile goes from 10 miles away to 1400 miles away.
She asks what I've been doing, I respond with the same detail I always do and ask what she's been up to. She says just work and going home. Oh, what city is home for you? She lists the city I live in. And are you home at this moment? No, she's in another state, and she asks why I wanted to know.
So I'm like, well, I've been putting in the effort to have a conversation and respond with details and such, and you just skipped over the huge detail of being in another fucking timezone; claiming you were just at work and went home. And I genuinely didn't need the full life story of why she's suddenly in another state, but that is decidedly not "work and went home". And so she's like, oh, okay, I understand. So apparently I have a daughter (fact in her bio, weird way to say that), and anyway I worked a lot and then went home and made dinner and chilled. And at that point it's like, no the fuck you didn't. You are 1400 miles away. You took a flight. You are not, by your own admission, home. You are either lying and being really cagey, which is a red flag for trying to get to know someone, or you're a fucking bot.
