While Iâm back on my evermore bullshit (letâs be real I never left), I canât help thinking about how itâs such a perfect standard closer for evermore the album, and to folkmore as a project.
The idea of writing through immense pain to process it, as a form of bloodletting and analysis and eulogy for whatever that time was and whoever the person you were was, in an act of catharsis. Taking these events and feelings that had been heavy and confusing and painful and coming out the other side to make this beautiful testament to the human condition. How the song takes all the themes in those two albumsâ grief, loss, anger, pain, loneliness, betrayal, desperation, depression, fearâ and encapsulates them in this sea of turmoil that she eventually makes it through is the ultimate reclamation of life amidst chaos. The light at the end of the tunnel. The hope amidst the darkness.
And that is just what TTPD was about too: she took this moment of immense despair and turned it into an excavation of her soul. And what she learned through it, just like she did with evermore, is that this pain wouldnât in fact be forevermore. She felt the ground beneath her feet at the end of it, and lived to tell the tale. The only way out is through, and the only was through is to write about it. She writes about these feelings to help process them, and when she can write about them sheâs on her way to getting past them. Itâs so beautiful.
