Yes! They (Zephyr) are trans-masc!! or, intersex, more specifically. In terms of gender identity, they're very 'I got a job to do so I'm not gonna worry about that rn'-esc, and don't much care for however anyone chooses to refer to them or see them, gender/pronoun-wise etc.

The 'unicorn' element is because they are an aasimar; they used to be not one, though, but they have little to no recollection of that. Mostly because its been about 700 years since, among other things.
In my head, aasimar are 'designed' by whatever deity blessed them to be one, and so take on a lot of what that deity might believe to be 'perfection'. I've never liked the idea of all aasimar being a) from 'good' gods, and b) being typically these ethereally beautiful beings (mostly because I dislike the shallow trope of beautiful=good and ugly=evil). A little ironic considering Zephyr does fit into the trope of being 'ethereally beautiful', but I like to do that with more intention than just it being because they're aasimar, y'know?
So, for Zephyr's blessing, their deity is of a lawful good standing, and has many similar general traits/teachings that we see on the irl Christian God. I picked a unicorn specifically for their association with 'goodness, truth, and integrity'; on top of that, they embody traits of both male and female (hence, the intersex thing), as a sort of follow from the idea of humans being created 'in God's image' and being a representative of not one gender in particular. The mix of these both, and the 'ethereally beautiful' thing is a loose idea of religious naivety & faith, as well as aiming to represent both neither, and all, ideas of gender/sex etc.
As for the character themselves, as opposed to what they represent; Zephyr is a very dutiful and faithful sort. They're a paladin with a strict moral code that they follow even if it means doing things not-by the book. Very direct and blunt with the way they speak, very much 'all piss & holy vinegar', so to speak, when it comes to what they believe is their 'divine duty'.
The work as an 'inquisitor' for a sect of their church/government, that aims specifically for the control & eradication of fiends (devils, demons etc) on and within the material plane. Their sect is a more recent implementation in the church, to replace the former sect of exorcists after they found exorcists to be dangerously susceptible to demonic influence.
it's a sort of 'break a few eggs to make an omelette' decision; while exorcists were a lot more 'delicate' with their work and aimed to cure people of their afflictions (especially possessions and pacts), it took a rather large toll on them, and was a very tedious and specialized form of work. paladins, on the other hand, are a lot quicker and efficient, finding simpler solutions in just 'killing the things' to be very effective with very little risk of demonic influence; the issue more-so comes with the fact that very few people find themselves alive at the end of it, if they've made the mistake or accident of finding themselves possessed or within a pact of some demonic nature.
I keep meaning to do a short, 5 page comic idea I had for Zephyr but I'm so lazy and just keep procrastinating on starting it 😠maybe one day...
