Chapter 6: The Reunion

Summary:

After Egg collapses in bed, Dunk takes a moment to check his pocket, remembering Lyonel’s fingers at the lip of it. It takes him a moment to find something in there that doesn’t belong. Something small and cool, metal. Dunk frowns and pulls his fingers out, gold glinting in the cup of his palm. Lyonel’s earring. Dragonfire could not be any hotter than Dunk’s blood at that moment. Had Lyonel put it in there to entice him? Remind him of Ashford Meadow? As if Dunk has been able to think of anything else since seeing Lyonel resplendent in that pasture. He gathers his courage before it deserts him and walks the handful of paces between the door to his room and the door to Lyonel’s. He knocks quietly. Lyonel opens the door confidently as if he knew exactly who’d be standing on the other side. The afternoon light spills through the half-closed shutters in thick stripes. Dunk near swallows his tongue, face feeling flush, as he takes in Lyonel’s state of undress. His chest and arms are bare, as though he’d been undressing for bed.

Notes:

We're bringing the lovers back together in our final chapter, told in Dunk’s POV. Lyonel and Dunk finally have the conversation they need, Dunk gets to be a badass and Lyonel finally gets that ride he's been asking for. My beta reader has joined me as a co-author of this chapter!

HEYYYOOOO!!!! I wanted to shout out @starcityrebels and now @duesternis for what is an absolutely excellent final chapter of The Earring!! For me, it really rounded out these two characters and really brought them home with how their arcs developed over the course of this story. @starcityrebels has worked so incredibly hard alongside @duesternis to bring them to life, and they deserve all the praise and love.

This chapter is hot af 🥵🤤😈 in all the best ways. Let's just say Duncan is no longer the shy and timid young man Lyonel met at Ashford Meadow 😈. I don't want to give away too much but this one is a fatastic example of going out with a bang!! Sad to see this story finally come to and end but I do look forward to everything these two share in the future.

Chapter 19: After the Storm - Part One

Summary:

Dunk sits first, Beron leaving a chair free between them and Lyonel has half a mind to walk around the table and sit across from them. But the food is right there and he’s too tired for pettiness, he thinks. For the first time in a while. And they mean well. They did almost see him lose himself to the storm and its beckoning. So he allows their fussing, their quiet seething worry, and sits between them.

I just wanted to put a spotlight on my friend and editor's fic, A Squire at Storm's End! @duesternis just dropped a new chapter, and I wanted to encourage anyone who hasn't checked it out yet to go give it a shot! If you want a fic that explores Dunk's young life and what meeting Lyonel at that age might look like, then this one is for you!!! Their take on Lyonel is so sweet and refreshing. We love an emotionally mature man!!!

Lord Tarth leads them into a solar, large windows showing the view towards Durran’s Point, across the Strait. “Please,” the lord says. “Sit.” He gestures at a maid tending the small fire and she curtsies, dusting her hands on her apron. “Milord?” “See to it that our guests are brought something to break their fast. Hot and plenty, they’ve come through the storm.” The girl shivers, curtsies again and leaves them with that quick step that means she’d run if it were appropriate. Lyonel sinks into one of the cushioned chairs and points the lads towards a couch. They pull their cloaks off and drop into their seats heavily. “I’ll leave you to your rest,” Lord Tarth says warmly. “My maester will find you, Ser Lyonel, after you’ve eaten. For the raven.” “Thank you, truly, for your hospitality, Evenstar.” The man bows just enough and then closes the door behind himself quietly. Lyonel’s eyes close with the door and he stretches his legs. Groans. “I’d give a lot for a Lysene soak,” Beron says quietly, groaning himself. “Fuck, I might be compelled to give my left hand for that,” Lyonel agrees and Dunk snorts half a laugh. “You’ll be useless, with only one hand, ser,” Beron argues and Lyonel laughs at that. “Not useless, just insufferable.” Dunk mutters something and Beron laughs. Lyonel lifts an eyelid halfway, watching the lads lean together, chuckling. “Secret joys?” “Very much so,” says Beron haughtily, coming to Dunk’s rescue, as the lad stutters, wringing his fingers into his cloak. Lyonel closes his eye again. “Very good. You should have more of those.” An odd sort of noise comes out of Dunk and Beron whispers something, making him make an odd noise again.

Dick tries to strangle Bruce in the shower, which, huh, is uncharacteristic to say the slightest-

-Except wait-

-Bruce kills him, but it’s a clone. Or a robot. We don’t know, but wait- there’s a DUMPSTER full of them, which… why, how, who else died???

But there’s no time to think about it because wait there’s another Dick and wait he’s being chucked down the stairs and wait Bruce broke his neck and wait-

-the blood is yellow so he IS a robot but hold on what are you doing with him where are we going-

IS THIS GETTING OVERWHELMING YET??? ARE YOU OVERWHELMED? GREAT QUESTION ANYWAYS-

-BRUCE HAS A FUCKING GUN-

-BUT THEN WAIT THE NORMAL BRUCE AND DICK COME BACK LIKE “hehe sowwy” AND ALFRED IS LOSING HIS FUCKING SHIT

I was distracted by the first page which, by the combined magic of Don Newton's pencils, Dick Giordano's inks and Adrienne Roy's luminous colours contains perhaps the most gratuitous, and perfect, ass-shot of Dick Grayson in history!

Even if it IS attached to a Robin-bot, just look at it, it's like two canteloupes fighting to get out of a small sack!
