Netflix just got The Kid Detective,
a dark comedy/film noir about an Encyclopedia Brown stand-in, grown up to be a depressed failing private investigator. I think it's really good and I think it'd especially appeal to anyone who worries that they peaked as a child.
There's this extended sequence in The Kid Detective where the protagonist (an adult detective) breaks into someone's home to investigate them as a murder suspect, then when the family unexpectedly arrives home, runs to hide in the closet of a teen boy, gets stuck there for most of the day as the kid sits at his computer, almost escapes, then has to hide in the sister's closet, where he's stuck for most of the night as she sits at her computer.
They're both depicted as listening to D-grade production music standing in for mid-00s emo, a very funny bit of characterization. They're also both shown playing this terrible single-player low frame rate Pong. I'd assumed that was because the filmmakers didn't want to license video of a real game, but very shortly afterwards we see the protagonist morosely playing a very plausible current-gen driving game, so, no, it's intended characterization that these kids just fucking love this terrible Pong knock-off.
