It’s not a coincidence that one of the main characters has many similarities with an openly gay character who was based on the victim of this tragedy. This has been a topic of discussion surrounding the book since its release in the 80s. This is not new. And I would, I am, going as far as to say that if you think that the nuanced subtext of Eddie’s sexuality is irrelevant to your enjoyment of the book/ franchise, you truly don’t understand the book’s thesis. And I’m not afraid to say it! This is not just an opinion! The fact of Eddie’s gay coding is not something for you to conveniently ignore so that you can ship him with women.
