Blue lab, blue lab

Work has had its ups and downs recently but I'm taking it as it comes and planning things with the knowledge that I have to be flexible. I still get grumpy some days but that's ok.

My notes are inky and smudged but I think it gives them a certain charm. Plus my fingers match them now.

It's getting colder now. The Christmas season has started and my mind is slowly shutting down for the holidays, though college closure isn't until the 23rd. Taking it a little easier won't hurt I'm sure, especially if I'm still getting good work done.

X-rays and libraries

So I'm working at a research institute near Oxford for the next few days, helping one of my group members get some good data for their thesis. I came a day early to see Oxford and visit some friends and it was cool to walk streets and think of Babel as I did. Now it's time for research and no real sleep schedule but I'm excited all the same.

I messed up in the lab today :(( It's only a small set back and I now know how to improve my experiments but it sucks that it happened. On the plus side, I'm going to Oxford soon for some synchotron work which I'm really excited about and I've also had a proposal approved for beamtime in Thailand! This PhD is giving me so many opportunities that I didn't even know were available to me and I'm really thankful.

I spent most of the day in the lab today and I got so much done so quickly I feel so happy!!

Productive procrastination I guess?

Reading Babel by R. F. Kuang. My partner gifted this to me as an anniversary gift and I'm so glad to be falling back into another one of Kuang's worlds. The writing in her books so just so easy to devour.

Working from home today because of the rain. It's properly autumn now and that makes me so happy!

I thought I'd be out by 4 pm today and damn if that wasn't wishful thinking. I ended up leaving at 5.30 pm instead which technically isn't that bad but I was really hoping for an early finish.

Today was a sit in the office day. Did some marking and reading and I did pop into the lab now and again to get some things moving. Slow going but progress is progress.

Labs were exhausting today and Midnights is saving me.
