have you noticed it's "brothers" and "sisters" but not "siblings?"

have you noticed that it's "transfem" and "transmasc" but not transneutral, transandrogynous, or otherwise?

have you noticed that nonbinary characters are sorted into "masc" and "fem" but not allowed to be anything in-between or outside?

have you noticed that it's "lesbian" and "gay" but not cenelian, or enbian, or gai, or strayt, or any other nonbinary-focused attraction label?

have you noticed that it's "yaoi" or "yuri" but any nonbinary equivalents are jokes?

apologies if this is derailing i just saw the tags and went !!!. as a japanese person im also agreeing with these tags of it being disliked. why is it always japanese words specifically being turned into meme or a western token to collect/use a lot? i know it's not just western US who does this but it's the biggest example yknow. if you mean gay in general say gay, if you mean lesbian in general say lesbian. can you personally identify with yaoi and yuri? absolutely!! i do as well! but it comes off as odd to almost exclusively use yaoi/yuri in place of real attractions. yaoi/yuri isn't an attraction, it's a media category. it's a type of story. it's also a heavily fetishized and a sexually portrayed media. that's a very weird media to be using in place of real attractions

it's also a media that isn't as inclusive of nonbinary people the way most of you (general) are using it. yaoi doesn't mean gay, it means men relationships (og definition is specifically male but now includes men regardless of sex), yuri doesn't mean lesbian it means women relationships (same issue of above with og specifically meaning female but now includes women regardless). yaoi can be gay men, bi men, pan, aromantic, etc. but it's men. same with how yuri can be all of those labels but is women. thats placing a binary on lesbian and gay when you choose to call it yuri/yaoi instead. that excludes those not part of it

the other issue of making joke terms that imply nonbinaryhood or other labels isnt a real experience worthy of a proper word is also icky. there's a difference between personally categorizing yourself and doing it to the whole label. you are treating labels outside of man and woman like it's fiction. like it's a joke.

there is the term kaori, it was coined on tumblr and is meant to be a real used word for media that works with japanese language rules. it's made for those who aren't strictly men and women. but it's still a media so don't go replacing enbian with it.. just wanted to offer that term as some info. sorry if words weird in any of this. schizophrenia+dyslexia wording evilness
