Please keep Scotland in your hearts. The, Cairngorms, UK’s single biggest national park is burning, and has been for more than 10 days now. They claim the fire is under control but it is not, not even remotely close for how indifferent the rest of the country is to it. This is a sacred landscape and home to thousands of species, hundreds of them endangered. Including the critically endangered Scottish Wildcat and the last remaining Capercaillies.
Aberdeen, Scotland’s third largest city, is covered in smoke.
Why hasn’t this been declared a national emergency?
I hope it's ok to add to your post. I was in the Cairngorms just as the fire started, I learnt about the amazing natural forest regeneration going on across multiple estates and reserves in the national park and I'm so angry we are now watching so much progress dissappear.
There are nationally rare moth populations in the cairngorms, of kentish glory and dark bordered beauty. The small scabious mining bee is only found in the Highlands. Right now we can only hope the fire has not affected them too badly.
So much conservation work gone and it will take a long time to recover. The fire will damage the area even after it's put out, because of the fire we will likely see more algae blooms in the lochs in the surrounding area, there's already a blue green algae bloom in Loch Garten.
Most of our wildfires are caused by human activity, it is illegal to light fire in the cairngorms and yet people still do. I'm furious, it was likely an accident but that doesnt make this ok. We need to teach people to respect the code of conduct in beautiful places like the cairngorms. More importantly we need to be better prepared as a country for tackling fires when they inevitably do happen again.
But right now the most important thing I can suggest to anyone who's angry about this, is to join the movement to stop rosebank and jackdaw because we cannot let Westminster approve more north sea drilling. Also check out the cairngorms connect project and support them in their incredible work

Hey. If people aren't aware, Microsoft admitted they know who you and where you are at all times and will give your info to the police.
They have a Global Device Identifier (GDID) Tracker that functions as a fingerprint for your PC that can surpass VPNs, proxy servers and countries. Although it can't survive a clean reinstall of Windows (it can survive updates), because Microsoft forces you to go to the internet and log in into a Microsoft account, they will be able to get to you.
Microsoft kept it secret and it was only found out when the FBI tracked a hacker thanks to the information Microsoft gave them.
You should be paying attention to this, and possibly consider moving away from Windows. If a government, especially the US government, doesn't like you for some reason, this could be seriously concerning.

What has researchers uneasy is everything else the case reveals. Costin Raiu, a well-known malware researcher, asked on the Three Buddy Problem podcast how much of this exists on other platforms, and whether it is linked more permanently to hardware. Two things back that up:
There’s no consent screen. A GDID gets assigned when you sign into a Microsoft Account. Apple’s advertising identifier needs an App Tracking Transparency prompt and a visible reset; Android’s works the same way. GDID has neither, and a Windows reinstall only gets you a new number Microsoft can still get back to the same account.
Then there’s activation. Massgrave, the group behind Microsoft Activation Scripts, notes that Windows setup sends hardware info to Microsoft and gets identifiers back, the same tokens later used for Store access and licensing: “It’s impossible to prevent Windows from getting a GDID without breaking activation and UWP app[s].” Anyone who lost a license after swapping a motherboard has already met a smaller version of this.
the gdid works because when you log in to microsoft services on a windows machine the gdid is sent to them
so if you log into windows on your home ip, they know that computer, your account, and that ip are connected; same with a vpn or tor, whatever ip is now linked to yojr account and your computer
if you reinstall windows and use the same account, now that gdid is associated with your account
the feds found the person because the same ip that was involved with the attack was linked to the person's microsoft account, and microsoft is wont to comply with subpoenas
if you want to do crimes dont just do it on linux, do it on an ephemeral install. go look up tails os. and dont post about it if you do
