Itās 2:30 AM and Iām in the menās bathroom and someone was in another stall and I starting blaring the Thomas The Tank Engine theme and I literally heard them stop peeing out of fear
how do you know it was fear and not arousal?
I like to think we live in a nice world and not the one you just created
a blonde guy with a magic hammer goes after his colleague, a big dude with giant fists and an anger management problem, teams up with a fierce female fighter with a tragic past, all while trying to navigate a strange, colorful world forever locked in a sensationalized competition and run by an old man with a flamboyant demeanor. along the way, he runs into a disgraced royal heir with a penchant for green and mischief
is the movie thor: ragnarok or wreck-it ralph
So this gave me chronic whiplash, enjoy.

i have this really awesome song i wrote way back in october and i would love to post it!! the problem is i donāt have the lung capacity to actually sing it :(((( iām gonna have to do a whole arrangement & recording of it so i can stop and start to catch my breath. unfortunately,,, the chorus is in 5/4 time and garageband can only do 3/4, 4/4, and 6/8, so itās gonna take me a hell of a lot longer to figure out how to record it than if it were just in a normal time signature. lmao maybe if i wasnāt broke iād get a decent recording program

Lingthusiasm Episode 19: Sentences with baggage - Presuppositions
Whatās so weird if I say, āthe present King of France is baldā orĀ āI need to pick up my pet unicorn from the vetā? It seems like those sentences should be false: at least, they certainly canāt be true. But if you reply,Ā āNo, he isnātā orĀ āNo, you donātā it still feels unsatisfying: arenāt we still both assuming that France has a king and that I have a pet unicorn?Ā
In this episode of Lingthusiasm, your hosts Lauren Gawne and Gretchen McCulloch explore different kinds of meanings: sometimes sentences wear their meaning on their sleeves, but sometimes they instead smuggle it in as baggage. TheseĀ assumptions are known as presuppositions. Presuppositions are incredibly useful (we couldnāt manage conversations at a normal pace without them), but in the wrong hands (such as when youāre trying to influence an eyewitness) they can also be very dangerous.Ā
This monthās bonus episode on Patreon is about memes, poetry, and mock-old English:Ā Roses are red /Ā Violets are dreams / In this episode / We talk poems and memes.Ā
We also announced a new round of Lingthusiasm merch: you can now get scarves with a subtle tree diagram print suitable for all your language family tree/syntax tree and other structural needs, and t-shirts, mugs, totes, and pouches with Heck Yeah Descriptivism or Heck Yeah Language Change on them, as well as the existing IPA scarves and NOT JUDGING YOUR GRAMMAR, JUST ANALYSING IT items in more colours!Ā

lmao when kids in elementary school would be like "does your mom know you're gay?" and you'd say "no" and they were like "hahahahaha but that still means ur gay"
In France, it is now forbid to have runway models with a BMI under 18. This is due to the belief that underweight models glamorize an unhealthy and malnourished appearance.
Meanwhile, in the US, plus-sized model Tess Holliday is plastered all over the internet and on magazines as well, and has a BMI of 46. I read a Buzzfeed article on her a few months ago. The article highlighted how empowering her story was, and that she was a self-confidence inspiration to many other plus-sized women. When I looked at the comments of this article, they were all positive, with a few exceptions. These exceptions included comments like, āThis is clearly not healthy! Thereās no way you can weight that much and be healthy!ā These were quickly addressed by other commenters who added things like, āYouāre not her doctor, you donāt know her cholesterol levels or how much she exercises!ā
If plus-sized modeling was banned in the US, people would go berserk. It would be āoppressing, discriminatory, unfair,ā etc.,
But I have not seenĀ a single post where tumblr has lost their minds since France has banned thin models. Why?
Because this website loves to preach body acceptance, but exclusively to those who have felt discrimination in the past. If plus-sized models are allowed, so should thin models. Or if thin models are banned, plus-sized models should be as well. One doesnāt get to pick and choose which way the so-called āacceptance movementā sways, because youāre either for it, or your not.
If you can clearly defend plus-sized models as being healthy until proven otherwise, why is it not the same way with thin models?
