the setting of knightworld is the principality of velunia, the originator of the titular religion of the story. i havent been able to find a name for it that i like yet but velunias religion revolves around the cycle of life, a beings role in nature, and some type of reincarnation. some surrounding countries share this religion but my geopolitical lore still needs work sorry sorry tho i def wanna develop it

the creation myth tells the story of the great winged serpent and the sea, the only two "beings" (sea isnt seen as a living being per se but im trying to workshop more spiritual relevance into it) that saw the beginning of the world. once the serpent grew tired of its loneliness it descended down into the sea, forming the first landmass with its body + raising other islands/continents from the impact. it split its power into four shards, who became the four Great Beasts, the central figures of velunian religion. each great beast is believed to have dominion over an aspect of the world/nature, and are the only beings that undergo true reincarnation. the great beasts then made man, and the rest of the world.

every other living being does not get reincarnated immediately per se, but instead it is believed that once a body undergoes the proper rites (usually ending in cremation), our soul returns to the winged serpent, as one day it will be reborn, destroying the world, and eventually repeating the same cycle, ferrying souls to the next world where they will experience a new life. any ghosts would be believed to come from improperly prepared/abandoned bodies.
