finally got around to cinderellas castle. i heard that bryce is good in it but holy shit

needless to say, i really enjoyed it. a very different and refreshing vibe after all the hatchetfield stuff. the fantasy vibe was really fun.

i think the music was kinda hit or miss tbh but i think the show really shines in the writing and performances. i said already that bryce was fucking amazing, but curt, jeff and angela were other highlights for me.

i think the scenes between ella and tadius were my fav parts. they had such a good dynamic and its where the writing really was at its peak.

overall, so so good. im definitely curious to see what others think 🤔

musical enjoyers I have a question! when it comes to soundtracks, does your opinion of a song tend to coincide with the moment in the story the song represents and how you feel about that? or is it exclusively based on the quality of the song itself, regardless of how you feel about its place in the story?

for example: a love song in a musical. if you don't like the couple/think their storyline distracts from something you like more/think the story moment represented by the song isn't very good/etc, does that affect your opinion of the song? or do you judge the song entirely on its own merits - will you like a good love song even if you don't care for the couple? or vice versa?

this can go for any kind of story moment/theme/character beat/etc represented by a song, I just thought love song was a succinct example

Obviously nuance but I voted the second option cause 'it depends' feels like a cop-out. Generally when I'm listening to just a soundtrack I judge the song by it's quality but I can also recognize that it's almost impossible to separate a song from its original context, especially with musicals where the music exists as a way to deliver the storytelling.

But as an example, I don't really care for Tom and Becky's relationship in Black Friday but Take Me Back is a fantastic love song where two vocal juggernauts get to flex their abilities and also it's just a good song.
