I'm reading over what I've written for one of my stories so far and I'm so embarrassed because the geography in it is completely wrong. How can I expect to gain a degree in geology and geography if I can't even write about it correctly?
Okay but like why does Gibson have a British accent? Like is there an English colony on Shuggazoom? Why does only he have it? Does only Gibson come from this colony why did the alchemist get one British monkey
I think at some point before the team went into their deep sleep, Gibson interacted with someone who had a British accent. This could be his teachers, students or just someone he admired.
People tend to mimic the behaviours of those around them, especially it it's for an extended period of time. Regardless of whether anyone understood him, Gibson could have easily picked up the accent if he were exposed long enough to it.
Fun fact: the way I talk can sometimes cause people to mistake me as being British. I'm from New Zealand and the accent here is nothing like that. Plus the only time I'm ever exposed to British accents in on the television. And which British accented character did I love as a kid? Gibson.
Quite simply, there are many ways he could have picked up his accent. Personally, I'm fond of the idea that he admired someone with the accent and unconsciously began to copy it. Just imagine the team going on a mission where Gibson gets along great with one of the British accented locals and when they get back to Shuggazoom Gibson starts talking with the British accent.
Since everything manages to malfunction in the middle of my lectures I now have the head-canon that every time Gibson tries to give a lecture his presentation is disrupted by either technology failure, power cuts, alarms and basically anything that could possibly go wrong.

It's canon that Gibson gets interrupted every time he tries to explain something. We only see him try to give an actual lecture once, but it's probably true that he puts a lot of effort into planning and preparing his presentations only to have that interrupted as well.
